It has made a WORLD of difference...

Just like Kiki, who is a month out, realized she needs to track her food... so do I, even though I am almost 9 months out!!

I read about plateaus at my WW meeting and it said that most people pleateau because they don't REALIZE they are getting relaxed with their rules.

I feel I have been successful because I always evaluate and re-evaluate my journey. So, I figured out how many points I should be eating (29) and started tracking.

Holy cow!!! I was eating WAY over my points. For example, sometimes I eat a CUP of store-bought chicken salad. My nutritionist told me not to count calories, so I never bothered looking at the calories. WELL, it turns out... that CUP of chicken salad is 18pts.. Holy CRAP!!

Or Jimmy John's Unwich (uses lettuce instead of bread). The one I was eating was about 450 calories and 24 grams of fat... all because it had MAYO in it. I took that out and it went down to 180 calories and 5 grams of fat!

Anyway, I have been tracking my food for the past three days and I FEEL so much better, my head hunger is much more under control and I feel so much more in control of my life.

I recommend it to anyone - from pre-op to post-op. It's good to know what's going into your body!

I didn't realize that you can do points on WW with the Lap Band?!?! I was planning on going to WW once I got the Lap Band, but I didn't think I could do the point system. I just figured I would have to stick with the Core Plan.

Well, I always did CORE, because I thought "I have the band. I'll NEVER be able to eat all my points."

Not true... though my portions are small, I don't realize some of the HUGE point values in seemingly-healthy foods.

Also, WW doesn't have CORE and FLEX anymore. It's now the MOMENTUM plan which combines the two. So it made me start tracking again... and BOY am I happy I did!

Well I think plateaus are just the body's way of adjusting to changes.  I do keep track of everything I eat and also any exercise.  I don't diet any more.  I use a little calculator size device, you can carry it in your purse.  www.HealthFitCounter.com.  It keeps me pretty well disciplined.  I really think it makes a difference and kept me at goal for over 2 years.

Elena,

Great message and I agree whole-heartedly.  I'm not as experienced with my eating program as you and I know that if I don't track my food, I eat way more or way less than what my body requires.  It was great to hear that this is something, I will need to continue even when I feel I "have the hang of things," especially when adding new foods to my diet.  I also appreciate the lesson on how just one extra ingrediant can send the caloric value of a very healthy choice over the top.

You have been successful because you re-evaluate your behaviors.  That is another lesson I need to pay attention to.

I hope your plateau is blown to bits.

Thanks for posting,

Although I am not doing WW right now, I do believe it is a very healthy program and I like it, they are so right on when it comes to healthy eating.

I do keep track of everything that goes into my mouth. I use myfooddiary.com, honestly even with good restriction you still have to make the right choices. I can have a very small amount of food for 3 meals and no snacks and at the end of the day still be at like 1800 Cal's.!?!?

Cheese is a huge culprit, Nuts, Mayo, Dressings, Gravies, Sauces...etc...So I have to really watch it with these things.

Yes, cheese has protein, but really it has a lot of fat and is very high in calories where shrimp is high in protein and low in fat.
It really is all about the choice and research on our part.

Also, WW is very healthy in the fact that it is rounded out. You have all of your food groups. IMHO, many people with the band don't get all of the nutrition they need and this can cause health problems, even further down the line.

So, KUDOS to you for realizing that health comes first. You have done and are doing an awesome job of working your band to it's fullest:).

Yep I think we all should do that! I'm over a year out but had to start tracking and logging again because it's just so easy to let things slide by when we don't write them down where we have to actually face what we are putting in our mouths.
