I was a CNA years before I became a Medical Assistant. As far as Kaplan is concerned, I have inquired 6 different schools. From IUPUI, Ivy Tech, IBC, MED- TECH, Brown Mackie, and Purdue. It totally depends on the college whether or not they will accept the credits, no matter whether it is a diploma, technical certificate, or degree. This is what I was told from the registrar's ofc. When I was in orientation my first day at Kaplan, I was told that the credits would transfer so I left it at that.
Schools and Universities are either nationally or regionally accredited. Vocational schools for instance, are not accredited in the same manner as a University. Therefore, the credits will not transfer from a vocational school to a University. However, usually one can transfer their credits from a vocational school to another vocational school. It is completely up to the individual school if it will allow a transfer of credits from another institution with the same accreditation. That is definitely something that one should have understood and researched before starting a program with any institution.

I'm sorry, but I definitely feel you went about it wrong. You should never throw a superior's lack of education in their face or talk back the way you did. My opinion, you'd better start looking for another job. You will need it. You have a real attitude problem.

I believe your days there are numbered, and rightfully so.  You better seriously be looking for new employment soon.

I don't care how much "education" you or anyone else has, you were hired to do a job.  Whether you believe it's above or below you; you are paid to do it and it's the professional thing to do.  I'm sure when you were hired the job discription wasn't all inclusive, ever hear "any and all jobs, as assigned".

I'm not judging you as a person; self-esteem is important, not allowing others to **** on you is important but being disrespectful is looked on negatively so do your best going forward to remain positive and professional wherever you work.

Good luck!

I have been at my current job for a little over 8mos, and I am so desperatly needing a change. First off I graduated from a medical assistant program last year in October. Where I work at now I work as a check in person at a oncology practice. I took this job because I had financial obligations I had to meet, and the opportunity to move on to work as a medical assistant. Those were the only two reasons why I took it to get at least part of a toe in the door. My boss knew this. I asked for a certain amount when I got hired. She said that because of my work history ( stability) she can only start me off at 11.00/hr, but assured me that I will get what I am asking for in 90 days. Well I started there in 8/2008 and i did not get my 90day review until 2/2009. I have busted my but workig in this place hoping that it would pay off. Well guess what, in my review I got a little .35 raise. My boss told me that she thought I was worth that much. I felt like reaching across her desk and choking the dog mess out of her. I felt like it was a slap in the face. Okay so a few months later we had another problem when she  was talkin to me like I was stupid. Her exact words" I cant believe you cant follow simple directions, a first grader can follow directions better than you, I thought better of you. Okay, that was the straw that broke the camels back. I have been insulted but not like that. I let he slide many months with her sly comments, and this day I could not let her shoot down my self esteem and belittle me. My comments were" I have bent over backwards to do everyhting you ask me to do, and this i how you are going to talk to me. I am not like your other employees total pushovers. You are dealing with a real person, and I have feelings and you have trampled on them long enough. I am done with letting you talk to me like I am stupid. I have been asking you so- called managers for help for months, and you have yet done nothing. Better yet since  am so dumb, how about I do you one better. You can take this extra responsibility you are trying to pile on me and do it yourself. " she then said, Oh yes you will do it" I told her, I bet my ridiculous .35 raise I won't, amd mark my words you will respect me. I told her, you want me to work for nothing. I have a Ivy League backgroung compared to your lucky 5 years of being a manager of which you never went to college to earn a degree. Do what you want, I see myself a a dead end job working here. You promised me this and promise me that. How many other people have you lied to? Your point of view is becoming more transparent each day, and I see through your bull****. You lied to me about how long I had to be in my position in order to trabsfer to another department. I dont have to wait a year. I can move anywhere as long as a slot is open" That was told to me by her boss, after I talked to her.

She does not want no one to do better than her, she is upset with me because I am not a suck up like everyone else. Before all of this happened, I talked to the lab manager and she was willing to give me a part time position, just so I can put my skills to use to start of. My boss and the lab manager are really good riends. After, I put my boss in her place, the lab manager all of a sudden changed her mind about letting me work. This really ticked me off, because my boss did tell me, that if she has anyhting to do with it, she will make sure I dont work in the lab. The lab manager is going to tell me that I cant hire you because it would be unfair to the lab techs,Now mind yo, I am cool with all the lab techs and theytold me that they would love to have me work with them. They know I have limited experience, but let me tell you this I always got the vein perfectly when I went to draw blood. Then the lab manager went on to tell me that the lab techs would not let me draw on them, I had talked to the lab techs when I first considered applying to the lab, and they volunteered. At, this time I knew she was feeding me BS, a whole unch of it at that. And thenwhat she said next, I kinda shut down because I am so angry. She said , You dont have any experience, I told her she knew that from the beginning. I know my boss went and bad mouthed me, I must admit she got me good, she got me really good. But what she dont realize, is that she does not want to face me head on. She think she;s bad. Okay I will show you who is bad. I am so ticked right now ladies. she has never seen my dr. jekyll mr hyde personality. I will have her think she is the one thats crazy. Everyone in that office is fake except for a few. Nobody in management has a college degree. The girl in human resources came from the lab, and don't have a degree either. I got a cake baked for everyone in that place. I always have the last laugh I guarantee you.

Then to make matters worse, I applied for a job yesterday and they called me today. It was for a MA position in a OBGYN ofc. In the past, I have been a CNA for 7yrs worked as a Medical Office Secretary/ Manager in a family practice for 3years. Worked in INsurance claimes for 2yrs. She told me that she was looking for someone with more experience. In my mind I was like, Okay then why did you call me. Before we got off the phone, I added I know I don't have what you want, but everyone has to start somewhere. She said " I will keep your resume on file and keep you in mind for future position. I was like okay and thanks for calling            For no reason............

Ladies I am too the point where I just want to give up, I was telling my mom earlier today, that i feel like I wasted my money even going to Kaplan, to find out later after I graduated, that the credits dont transfer.

How is anyone suppose to get experience if no one is willing to give someone a chance. This is ridiculous, I have always looke on the bright side, and always stayed optimistic. I got on alot of peples nrver being that way. My brother once told me" Tameka how can you be happy with life whenou get dealt a raw hand alot. And I always Said God didnt bring us this far to fail.

I am now starting to see how he felt, I dont like who I am becoming, I feel that with all of this negativity bogging me down I am starting to become hateful and bitter.

And then today, the lab manager tried to carry on a conversaion with me after my phone Interview. I wanted to say " I just wish you would stop alking to me you fake person" But instead I just ignoredher.

Sorry for the long vent, thanks for listening
Here are a few clues for moving up the ladder in the workplace, no matter what degree/certification you have:
#1.  Lose the attitude of entitlement.  You are owed NOTHING by any employer.  Let me repeat that, NOTHING
#2.  Continue to improve yourself with more education... Ivy League my ass.  You can't even spell check or use correct English grammar.  Your verbal language and your written words are a direct reflection of your level of education.  I could point them out one by one, but I won't waste my time, as I am sure you won't take it seriously.
#3.  You have to bust your ass in the workplace beyond the 90 day probation period to get further.  Don't expect or even ask for anything before 12 months.  Nine months in a job is just the entry level.  Get used to it.
#4.  Be happy with the $0.35 raise.  Some people have taken pay cuts this past year just to keep jobs.  Some have LOST jobs.
#5. Get over yourself.  You are NOT all that and a bag of chips, too.  Medical assistants and CNAs are a dime a dozen and are being cranked out like at the rate of 100 plus a month here by over half a dozen so called "colleges/institutes."
#6  Be lucky your supervisor didn't show you the door..... you are headed for it very soon.  You've been warned.

I find this post interesting to say the least, and you seem to attack anyone that does not agree with your view. So I am prepared to be attacked . On that note.  Your boss would not have the position she has if she did not earn it. It does not matter if she had a 8 year degree or a 3 month certificate the point is she got that job b/c the people above her believe that she can do what they are asking of them. I work in the medical field. I am lucky to have a wonderful employer, but with every job there are hoops and loops and rules and if you don't follow then you very likley will be finding a new job. How your talked to your sup was out of line! It is ok to have a sit down chat and say "Hey this is how I feel, ect" without going psyco on her! In a time where this country is, a .35 cent raise is a blessing,........many of us in the medical field have had pay cuts (speaking of my hospital where we all were cut by 3%). I walked in to my job as a CNA without any lcns or certs. I had two years med training and schooling, however, was not certified. My company paid for me to be certified, paid me to go to the training and then paid for my licns. I started out making $12.00 an hour with no exp. I am lucky and although I dont get a long with EVERYONE at my job, I am blessed to have it........there are many college degree holding people out there with out a job or only making $7 an hour at the gas station.
I think in my opinion, how I was raised, I would never talk to a boss that way unless something major had taken place. To do that shows your colors not hers.
Good luck with the job hunt!

I personally think you need to grow up....in this day be thankful that you have a job.

When I was hired at my job we were told we would have yearly increases in our salary, guess what we didn't get it this year.  And as far as work goes, if I was told to scrub the toilets I would do it, it is not in my job description but you know what I get a check every two weeks and if that is what is asked of me so be it.

If you don't like it leave, there are plenty of other people that would be willing to do whatever for a paycheck and they won't act as if they are entitled to it.  I think as far as your phone interview, if you tone came out as your email has I am positive that is why you didn't get the job.

I think you have a lot more learning to do...

Dear Tameka,

I stopped reading your post about half-way through because it is a lot of prattling in single-space font, completely unbroken by anything sensible.

BUT ...

I'm going to let you in on a secret to success:

Bust your hump, expertly, quietly, respectfully, and wait for people to notice.  Go out of your way to do EXTRA ... without asking.

NEVER say:  It's not my job.

Make everything your job that you possibly can, and then when an opportunity appears, yours will be the first name that everyone has on their lips.

This year I took on every responsibility that my boss suggested.  I showed up for everything, even when it wasn't MY thing.  I took on extra students, extra reports, extra presentations ... extra people, more work, slept less, thought and worried more ...

And it's been about a year and a half of this.

Finally, I'm being given a boost.  Guess what?

MORE responsibility!

That is how people really succeed.  People are given more responsibility, and more pay for this additional responsibility, when they demonstrate that

1)  they are a pleasure to work with
2)  are reliable
3)  are hardworking

It seems to me that your boss is noticing that you have a flaky work history, which makes you much less valuable as an employee.  She has turned out to be right.

My advice is, stick with this as much as you can, for as long as you can.  Work hard.  Be nice.  Stop complaining.

And then see what happens.

I have to absolutely agree with most everyone's replies to you, you are acting as though you're entitled to something instead of working hard to earn it.  And I myself have worked in offices a lot and I would have NEVER thought of talking to my boss the way you say you talked to yours, that is in NO WAY professional, you say you're more professional then her I highly doubt that just by the attitude you admit to taking with her.  You're not going to always agree with what your boss does but there is absolutely no reason for you to be so disrespectful and I can ONLY hope you didn't do this in front of other co-workers or heaven forbid patients.   You should be thankful you have a job there are plenty waiting I'm sure to take the one you have if you don't want it or think it's beneath you.  Obviously your boss didn't think you deserved more than the small raise you got and with your attitude I can't say I blame her.

By the way you expressed yourself in this thread its hard to take pity on you or your situation. You may have some valid beefs but because of the way you have relayed the information you come off sounding whiny and ungrateful. Even when venting we can lose credibility if we aren't careful of our tone. You are venting to an audience that may have lost their jobs or their homes recently and cannot figure out what on god's earth you have to be upset about. Respect is not demanded it is earned. So earn it....quit demanding it.

I will take pity on you in one way...I will explain that when you see people respond on your thread that have had other surgeries...not lap banders...but RNY etc. That means that they are coming over from another forum to read your thread, so somebody alerted them so that they can come and ream you a new one. Threads can only go downhill from there.
