I need help regarding my Hiatal hernia. dr said its very large. gi doc. friday, i go for a ct scan of my chest, I have a 6 year old lapband. I lost 96 lbs and gained 30 over the past 2 years. I have to have the hh repaired. i dont know what to do. sleeve. rny or weigh****chers. i am aware that its my choice. then i was planning just to have the fluid take out and leaving the band so dr doesnt hve to cut it out. I think that the drs want to do what ever as long as they get paid. i am 68 years old.
I am loking at these post Feb 19, 2015. years later from allyour posts. I have a large Hernia and a 6 year old lapband. Tomorww I go and have a ct of the chest. I need advise regarding the hernia. I only have 34 lbs left to get to goal after losing 96 lbs. One Dr wants to do either a sleeve or a rny. I will be 68 years old and I dont want the rny. from your experiences will i hve to hve the lapband removed when the hernia is fixed. thanks. I am so upset I can't even think straight.

Thank you for giving hope to the thousands of people who "think" they are safe just leaving the band alone inside them. It isn't safe at all it causes gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) in many people and that isn't something you can feel or know about unless you do an emptying test. As you said the scar tissue issue is another whole can of worms to deal with. Only someone who has survived the band can understand the devastation it inflicts on us. I wish you much success with your sleeve!
I can't imagine why anyone would get upset at all. It wouldn't be very sympathetic of them to get upset because you were honest about your experience. I'm so glad to hear that your sleeve is a positive experience for you. Continued success!

Yay!!!!! Please keep me posted on how your RNY goes. I am amazed at the difference I am experiencing. I bet you will have the same positive results that I am having. Plus, I think it is easier to convert to RNY after band...so hopefully your recovery won't be horrible.

Thank you. I was afraid to post bc I didn't want to upset anyone, but I had such a terrible time....I wanted folks to know that empty bands aren't harmless, and scar tissue can be very problematic. Thank you for your response. I do love my sleeve. I hope it stays this way. It is everything they promised me the band would be!!!!!

Great post! I am scheduled for RNY on March 16th I had the band for 5 years and it was great- until it wasnt and started messing up my esophagus. I lost 70 lbs, had it removed and gained 90. UGH. looking forward to my RNY operation. Congratulations on your results!
Best of luck to you with the sleeve! I hope you'll have nothing but smooth sailing.
Reading your words resonated with me. My gastroenterologist told me that the band really messed my guts up, too. Tons of scar tissue. The band can be very damaging. It might be "less invasive" to place, but it sure "invades" in other ways.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's good for other people to know that they're not alone.
