Topic: reflux vs slippage

Hello,

I was banded in 2006 and haven't really had many problems until recently. I was having a burning feeling in my sternum area and was constantly clearing my throat. I also noticed that over the past several months I've been eating "around the band" avoiding meats because I was getting stuck more.

I went to my surgeons office and saw the PA. He thought I was too tight and did an unfill.  I'm now able to eat the meat etc that I was avoiding but I have a very sore throat, burp a lot  and I'm coughing.  I called the PA and he said to give it a couple weeks to see if it gets better but I can barely sleep at night. I'm a profession singer so this is scary. Could it be a slippage? Should I be dealing with this for a couple more weeks. Please help.

That's terrific news. I'm glad you got through surgery okay and are recuperating!

Topic: RE: Newly Banded

Hi Brandy!  I am banded 8 years and lost 90 pounds.  Have about 40 more to go, maybe 45 if I pu****  I had a bout with cancer and let it slide for 2 years.  Other than that I have had no problems. I love my band and it has changed my life.  I got the band when it was new and first came out.  I would probably opt for a sleeve if I had to choose today.  But I don't!  You made your decision and now relax and enjoy the journey.  Bette will be along with her success story soon enough.  Follow your doctors advice.  Most of us long term successful bandsters are no longer on the boards.  We are following each other on fb and out enjoying and living our lives.  You will be doing that too.  Good luck!

It's really the surgeons decision.  As a long time bandster, I was NEVER asked how much of a fill I wanted.  I was interviewed by the doctor.  Weighed and reviewed my food journal and he always made the decision.

Topic: RE: 9 years banded and....

Hi Karen, So good to talk to you again!  Are you taking small bites and chewing, chewing chewing?  When I let myself get too hungry and take a big bite I get stuck and have to start all over.  We are human it happens.  I do remember you having this problem for a while.  It took me several years to lose 90 pounds because of health issues and turning to slider foods when I was really hungry.  We both had the band when it first came out and had high expectations.  I would go for a sleeve now if I had to revise.  Luckily I am fine so far.  I believe it is all about learning to eat correctly.  There are a few new procedures coming out very soon and medications too(not appetite suppressants).  Keep us posted and best of luck in whatever you decide! xxooxxoo
