Topic: Do you ever feel your port/tubing moving?

Hi all,

I had my Realize band placed in 2010 and have been very fortunate, as in no real problems that I'm aware of (yet). But for the last year every once in a while, it feels like the port and/or band are moving. Several weeks ago as I sat up in bed I swear it felt like it flipped. No pain, but just the most bizarre sensation. The last few days, I've had a sensation of something moving in my mid and lower abdominal cavity. And no, I'm not pregnant. :)

If I lay down on my left side (where my port is) it becomes uncomfortable and the area where my port is, as well as some area below it, becomes numb.

I live several states away from my surgeon, so I do not currently have a relationship with a bariatric surgeon to check this out, and since there's no pain, no vomiting, no ER-worthy "problems"--just odd sensations--I'm not sure how big of a concern this is? We're getting ready to move to yet another state, so I'm hoping this can wait a month until we get settled.

So my question is...is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what caused it/was it indicative of a bigger problem? Anything I should be watching for that might tip this into an ER-worthy trip?

Thank you for any help/feedback you have!!!

Mine gets tender now and then.  I have been lifting weights and wonder if the movement causes it to shift some?  I hope you start feeling better!  I'm like a freak show when someone wants to know about my band I let them feel the port site.  Creeps them out.  LOL.  Mine is just under my rib cage on the right side.

I've only had 2 tiny fills in under 2 years and I don't know how much is there but I think it's only .6cc, it could be less, I am not sure.  He won't put a lot in because I get too tight too quickly.  Even with it unfilled I slime and throw up foods at certain times.

I am still on the fence, I'm afraid to go into surgery.  I still have a month to get my head straight.

My doctor once said to me that if I go to the emergency room with a gallbladder attack (I was asking about gallbladder but this may help you too) then they would have to pay for it because its life threatening.  If I am just discomforted then its "elective".  Hmmm...so perhaps she can get a doc to say its life threatening and then insurance would pay not as bariatric surgery but as prevention of a life threatening issue?  Get another opinion with another doctor.  Some docs are better at getting insurance to pay than others.

I wish her well!

We are working on it. As of today she is scheduled to have it out on August 14th. However, they may not do it if there is no insurance. We have already discussed the ER thing. Nobody warned us in 2008 that she was setting herself up for a lifetime of having ailments not covered by insurance if the company should decide that they were caused by the lapband. If we had been told that, we, as her parents wouldn't have let her do it. I only posted here because I was hoping that someone might have an idea on something that would work with the insurance company.

This is a very dangerous situation and it must be removed immediately no matter what you have to do! Get it out even if you do have to pay for it or both of you get loans to do it what ever you have to do I don't think you realize how dangerous this is to have those loose ends in there and a lap band just floating around in there could easily kill her if it gets to the organs and punctures one of them! The lap band is dangerous enough on its own but one with pieces just loose in the body is a lethal situation! Try going thru the ER with extreme pain and beg them to get it out. Any band can slip ot doesn't matter how well it is taken care of!

Thank you Crystal for your response to my post.  I hope it will go away by itself as the last time I went to see my Dr. he said that the port can move from time to time and it is a normal event.  We'll see how it feels next week.  Thanks.

Have you done anything to the area recently that would have caused the discomfort.  I ask because, in April I was in a car accident (I was fine no injuries) but the seat belt must have squeezed tight in that area.  For about a week or two I was tender around my port area.  It's fine ever since.

Other than that I would not know and you should probably call your doctor
