Glass of water?

I am going to be sleeved in 2 weeks! I have been reading over the post op diet guidelines and reading all the posts on here (you are all so helpful)...and I am just wondering, will I ever be able to take normal drinks of water? I drink water all the time, and I keep reading about sipping water early on after surgery, but after a month or two will I be able to drink water like a "normal" person?

Thanks!

Yes! I'm 10 weeks out (today) and I can drink water normally with no problems. Now I just have to convince myself to drink it more often!

Congrats! You're gonna love it. The sleeve is wonderful!

Two part answer to your question: yes, you will (probably) be able to gulp beverages within a couple months. IMHO, that's one of the best things about the sleeve when compared to other surgeries! However, be aware that some (myself included) can't tolerate plain water after surgery, so you'll just have to wait and see what your tummy thinks of it :)

Good luck!

I'm 5 months post-op and can drink and gulp normally. What I cannot tolerate is plain water. If I add a little flavoring like crystal light or lemon I can drink glass after glass but plain water will not go down. Someone wrote that this was due to the tension of plain  water which is changed by adding the flavoring.

Good luck,
George

If you're like me, you'll be able to drink like a normal person, but you'll stop gulping so much because it makes you burp!

Thanks for everyones responses! I had a problem drinking plain water with my band when I was at a good restriction level, so I will probably be the same with the sleeve. Its definitely nice to know I will be able to drink like normal after the surgery!

Most people can go back to drinking normally...but sometimes people have problems with it for a  long time.  Sometimes different temps help...sometimes people come out of surgery with being able to gulp...it truely depends on the person!

I am 4 weeks out now, and I can swallow a normal person's swallow of water (unlike the 1/3 of a 1 oz med cup sip I was required to do just after surgery).  So that is no problem. But if I swallow too many swallows in a row, I get burpy fast. And uncomfortable.

I don't know if you will be the same, but for the first 2 weeks, every single small swallow I took produced a little gas that came back up! It was slightly annoying to my family at Christmas-time with all of my little gargly burps (even though I kept my mouth closed)!

I have been drinking water normally since about ten days out.   That is a bit fast compared to others I hear.  Also, at my suport group last night, some ladies were talking about not liking water anymore.  Those same ladies had no problem with water before surgery.  Kinda weird.
