Hey there Erin! Good luck on your endeavor with the Marine Corps. I am having weight loss surgery Feb 1 and am very excited. I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps from 1992 - 1999. It was a great experience. I had a lot of problems with my weight while I was in, therefore when my time was up I got out. Bootcamp is soooooooooooooo not easy, but if you are willing to do your best, and give up your free will for a few months it is worth it. I am now a Marine wife, my husband has over 18 years in and will be retiring at 20. We have 2 great children and a pretty great life. My husband is leaving for Okinawa in May, and I will be living in Arizona. Let me know how your quest goes. Sincerely, Laura Christopher, Camp Pendleton, CA [email protected]

Hey Karen! I just found the Marine Corps message board and read your post. You had surgery in August, right? How are you feeling?!?!? I hope it went well! I'm sure recovery isn't easy with a little one running around. I'm 3 years post op and it's the best decision I ever made. Take care and good luck!!!!! It only gets better and better. Love- Erin

Hi everyone! I just realized this forum existed! What a great idea. I've posted on the other message boards...perhaps more of the Marine family will find this one as well. I had myWLS on August 7, 2001 and have lost 165 lbs. to date. I feel better than I ever have in my life. I have an incisional hernia that needs to be repaired, but I will have that taken care of soon. I am currently in the early stages of enlisting with the Marine Corps. My WLS has been the greatest hurdle so far...I am having to jump through hoops to prove that I can make it through Basic, but I expected as much. So many people have misconceptions about what the surgery actually is...and I wonder if they think my guts will fall out when Im running *lol*. I have already been initially declined a waiver on the first round, but I am appealing the decision with another route through BUMED, so cross your fingers for me. I'll keep you posted, and if I make it you have to promise to write me in boot camp. Love- Erin

Creating your own post - how to use emoticons

Emoticons associated with your post's title

One emoticon may be associated with your post's title. (We currently do not support embedding emoticons in post titles; the emoticon image you select to go with your post will appear to the left of the post's title.) To select an emoticon image to go with your post title, click the down-arrow marked Title Images to the left of the area where you will type your post. A menu of images should appear; click on one to make it the title image of your post. The image you have selected will appear outlined in red in the Title Images menu.

Emoticons inserted into your post

As many emoticons as you like may be inserted into the body of your post. To view the available emoticons which you may insert, click the down-arrow marked Message Emoticons to the left of the area where you type your post.
