Approved for surgery
Well the insurance company finally gave me the approval for the lapband. Don't know if i'll like it but I guess I have to live with it since I really wanted the sleeve. I have also been informed that most of the insurance companies are going to stop approving bypass surgery also due to the risk and some have already stopped approving it........duh they didn't see that 15 years ago but they won't authorize the sleeve.... very dumb I think. My surgery is on Dec. 15th and I go on my liquid diet 3 days before Thanksgiving ( I'm thrilled ) lol. Hopefully I will be a little more up about it as time gets close, It's just like anything else you get your heart set on one thing and you have to settle for the other. Maybe the band will do me good and hopefully doesn't slip or screw up so I have to have it taken out. i would have preferred to lose the weight a little faster than you do with the band. I have a friend and she has lost 50 pounds in 8 months i guess thats good but she wants to lose it faster too and she has had 2 fills. But I'll do more reading on it and maybe it will make me want it more. I bought a lapband book when i started pursuing this whole thing and haven't gotten through the first chapter so I guess I'll break that out and read it to the end.
Dusty, it's great news and to have surgery on December 15th is even greater; it's my birthday and YOUR re-birthday! I know the band was your second choice, but I hope you can come to peace with it completely. You are determined to improve your health and you will succeed! I lost 80 pounds in my first year which was great, but that was ahead of the curve! You're a guy so you'll more likely lose more than that your first year. Strange your friend has only had 2 fills in 8 months IMHO. Really good restriction takes 3-4 fills normally. Start flipping through that book you have, PM me if you need me, if you want my cell phone number let me know. I'll help you when and if you need it!
While this is not exactly the path you wanted to follow, I still admire you greatly for moving forward with your second option. It is obvious how dedicated you are to making a change in your life. Many people who have had the band surgery have done very well, a number of these post on this board regularly. Congratulations on the insurance approval for the band. You will certainly reap the rewards in the end. Congratulations!
Hey Dusty congrats on your approval! I am sure you are going to do wonderful. Men always lose weight so quickly. Just 6 more weeks and you will finally be on the loser's bench!
Best of luck to you.
Best of luck to you.
I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I'm happy for your approval! Congratulations! On the other hand, I'm intrigued by your statement:
"I have also been informed that most of the insurance companies are going to stop approving bypass surgery also due to the risk and some have already stopped approving it..."
I would appreciate if you can share where have you received this information. If you read this in a scholarly or trade article, research or such, I would love if you can direct me to the source.
I have recently been approved for a RNY and your statement surprises me. I'm aware of the possibility of complications, as it is possible in any of the WLS surgeries (including the band), but by your statement it appears that the probability is so high that insurance companies are going to stop approving the bypass.
I'm still pre-op, so you know... I can never gather enough information. Thanks!

Good Luck with your surgery. Maybe this will turn out to be better than what you wanted. Please tell me how or where you heard that the Ins. Co.'s are not going to pay for bypass surgery. Years ago there were tons of risks, but Dr.'s have come a long way in the last couple years making sure it is safer now than ever before. It really saddens me to hear this, but we need to find out who or what Ins. Co's are stopong this surgery. We need to stop them from stopping this. See what you can find out and post here so we all can be aware, PLEASE ??
Again, you will be in my prayers on Dec. 15.Let us all know too how your surgery went.
Take care,
Ellen ( Oma)
