Does your family have a special blessing?  Is it one passed down in your family?  Did your kids learn a cute one in school or church?

Share!!!

Ours is a traditional Catholic blessing, passed down for generations:

"Bless us, oh Lord, for these thy gifts which we are about receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord.  Amen."

One year in pre-k, B learned THIS:

"A turkey is a funny bird.  He only says two words - GOBBLE, GOBBLE!!"  LOL!!!

Remember to count your blessings!!!

Hugs,

Tia

There is not a meal served in my parents home for which grace is not said, and the blessing is the same as your traditional Catholic blessing.

In my sister's home, my brother in law (son of an Episcopalian minister) usually does a free form blessing, but I find the traditional much more satisfying.

Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

I agree, it somehow just feels right and comfortable.

Thanks for EVERYTHING!

Being raised Pentcostal the grace that was being said sometimes got a little long, so eventually I would get so anxious that I would be sneaking a piece of turkey or stuffing while every body waited for the prayer to be finished. lol
Then when my older kids were little I would keep one eye open to catch those that did the same thing I used to do as a child.   I always have a good chuckle out of that!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Tia, I remember the Catholic blessing well.  My family used it to say Grace every night at dinner time before we ate growing up.  We were so used to that one that it became automatic, and when Thanksgiving came around and my Dad would add words to the prayer about what he was thankful for, and ask us to say something, we would be dumbfounded, LOL!!

For us it's usually the Catholic blessing as well, including Dad's side of the family.  Mom's side is a mixture so it's generally a very thankful blessing that changes at each meal.  But for most of the kids growing up it's always been: "God is great, God is good, let us thank him for our food.  Amen."  I like to sometimes whisper to myself "Yeah God!" lol

My husband is Catholic and I am an ex-catholic who attends a Methodist church with the kids.  They get plenty of church as they attend a service Saturday and a service Sunday.

This is the blessing Brad (who is autistic) says.  Keep in mind he is not a big talker and he is VERY serious when he does.

(big breath)  God is good, God is great.  (big breath and a pause) Let us thank him for this food, company,  (even bigger breath) and Kim being such a good cook. Amen.

It takes anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds for this to be said.
Kim

Tia:

Blessing the foood at home is a short prayer that I made up and tought the kids would be able to remember.  Short and sweet:  Dear Lord, please bless this food and those that are less fortunate.  Amen.  At holidays we usually try to go around the table and ask each person to say something that they are thankful for.

Hope your holidays are full of joy and abundance!
