Why can't I stop?

Stop feeling guilty. It is not your fault. Your biochemistry is unbalanced. It has absolutely nothing to do with willpower!

So Gail, I'm curious - is this treatable and how?  Sign me up!!!  And how is it determined if it's biochemistry?

Tia...go to the website I posted on Nicole's post. You can balance your body chemistry through nutrition. It is not easy but I totally agree with the doctor that wrote this book. Somewhere there is a questionaire called "Are you sugar sensitive?"

Gail -

I went to the site, took the test and am sad to say I got an A+!  The only part that didn't apply was the alcohol and/or drug addiction.

I'm going to explore this further and am going to reserve "Potatoes Not Prozac" at the library.

Thanks,

Tia

quick questions, are you not eating any sugar at all? do you really eat a potato at night and did you notice a difference. my skeptecism is very high LOL. i think i need to abstain from anything sweet, even fruit. or am i going too far?

OMG...are you kidding? I am a binge eater whether it be sugar or artificial sweetners. I am only on step one which is eating my breakfast within an hour of waking with enough protein for my weight which is about 30 grams and a complex carb. I make a protein shake most mornings with oatmeal for my carb. If you try just this much of the program you will see a difference in the way you feel. Maybe get the book and read it first. I use to never eat breakfast and then by 10:00 a.m. I was eating donuts, cookies or anything else sweet I could get my hands on.

The potato is step 4 and no sugar is step 7, I think. Some people call it the potato cult but I truly believe in it.

I'm with you Nicole and really agree with what Tia said.  You may be trying to fix too much at one time.

HUGS!

I am not a medical expert so I have no words of medical type advice I can give you. I am as most all of us here, just another person with excess weight and the problems that both led to it and are the result of it. I do know that you are a part of our OH community and you matter to us all. We are all here to support each other. If we could have fixed this alone we wouldn't have needed WLS to begin with. Hang in there and follow the basics. If you fall off the wagon one day don't beat yourself up and give up. Get back on the next day and forget about any mistakes, leave them in the past and move on on your journey.
Hugs

You've gotten a lot of advice.  I just wanted to put a little in here too.  I know I'm not as far out as you, but I was a carb addict.  Before surgery, I tried South Beach.  The first few days were horrible.  I wanted to cry.  A girl at work does South Beach and she said she was the same way.  If you make it through the first few days, you don't even crave the carbs anymore.  I was such a carb junkie and I didn't crave carbs.  It was totally odd.  Maybe it could work for you.

(I really hope that was understandable...  I have a really bad headache and am barely keeping my eyes open...  I just really wanted to share that with you.  It might help.)
