OK people I know its early Sunday morning, and I am so hoping there is at least one lurker here!
I woke up about 10 minutes ago, to find that my binder & gauze coverings were covered in some kind of drainage. This is covering my incision {I open RNY like 8 days ago}. My daughter, a CNA, changed the dressing and salined it all down and said it was a yeloowish looking drainage only with a sligt tint if blood. She recovered everything, except leaving the binder off to wa**** Within the time it took me to walk back to my bed & lay down, it had soaked thru the new bandages & was dripping down my belly!
I am not one to freak out per say, but WTF is this??????? I have a home nuse whom we have paged, but c'mon, its 8ish in the morning!!!!!!!!
Any suggestions????????????

the drainage sounds pretty normal to me after an open abdominal wound (I've had 2 sections one o which oozed for 6 weeks)...   color wise. but the amount is pretty intense.

I would not only call the visiting nurse.  I'd be on the phone with the doctor's service and tell them that you are soaking your bandages just about as soon as you put them on.

that's what we pay them for

Good morning Heather,

It is good that the fluid drained at least it is not retaining inside. But I would definitely give your Doctor a call to let him know so he can advice you as to what to do specifically.  I had a JP drain so all the flluid drained into a little container.   Has your incision opened up around a staple or a stitch? Do you feel the incision hot or is red? If it is hot or red please let your doctor know immediately.  I hope you get a call back and please update with their response.

Don't get the area wet for now and make sure your hands are clean before touching your incision. Keep it dry and covered until you get an answer.

Hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

OK.....so I am not dying........the conclusion that home nurse & doc came up with is that my JP drains were removed 2 days ago; the stapleline looks fine, not red or hot; maybe there was just some underlying fluid and from sleeping on my side I forced it out between some staples. No biggie unless it keeps up in intensity today. I have only had to change the dressing one more time.........hopefully the excess pool of fluid that was in there has seeped out & is done!
Sheeeeeew, what a way to start off my Sunday!
Thanks to all *****plied!

Sorry that you had such a scare. Still it is very good that you questioned it and sought medical advice. That can keep small things from becoming big things. Hope the day goes better for you and that the happy healing continues!

I was going to say the same as others, but I'm a little late to the party.  Glad it's nothing serious!!
