Topic: DVR Patients - What Was Your Pre-Op?
I will find out this information very shortly (05/03/2011), but I am just curious.

What pre-op diet did you follow and for how long?

Thanks.

Topic: Gifting Clothes...
It's really hard to believe that just 1 year ago i was 319lbs & down from 355 & 2 weeks post op.      It's an interesting feeling not having spring/summer clothes to pull out and try on to see what still fits you or what you cant wear cause of those winter lbs you gained.     I've gifted most of those clothes to fellow patients as needed.  Some have been gifted back and gifted twice.    I have to go shopping for my spring/summer clothes this year which I can't really afford so I am asking that anyone with sizes 12/14 please see what yah got that you can gift to me.    I volunteer and speak at Franklin Square Hospital Center at the Bariatric Institute's Information Sessions telling my story and doing a question and answer session and like to dress up for those it gives more of an effect. When people see you and the thought that you might have had weight loss surgery doesn't even cross their mind and then to see your before and look at you standing their all decked out.  It's inspiring so I love to do that.   So any dresses spring/summer/****tail/formal/ evening even or whatever will be most appriceated too.  I am working on becomming a self help coach and motivational speaker full time and persuing that full force right now. I have also started Weight Loss Surgery Patients Against Childhood Obesity programs offered to all students 4-24 to avoid or overcome childhood obesity.    I promise it would not be going to someone undeserving.  I am very passionate and try to do everything I can to help others.      Please contact me if you have some clothes to gift.    Thanks so much,  Laura

Congrats on your decision!

I was self pay for my band. I paid $5k cask and the rest was a personal loan from my credit union. I believe my original surgeon had a cash pay discount, so you should ask about that.

Good luck!

Wooooo hoooooo Christine!!!   Congratulations!!!

May 11 is just around the corner what a great Mother's day gift for you.   As far as preparing your family advice them that you need them to be very supportive especially when it comes to eating.  This is a life altering change not only for you but for the family as well.

Tell them that you are doing this for you primarily and then for them.  You will be so much healthier and you will be able to enjoy time with your family.

As far as being prepared make sure to have some s/f jello, pudding, drinks like (equate the walmart brand) apple, My favorite now is peach ice tea, orange sunrise, grape and many more. Inexpensive and no after taste.  I realized I didn't really cared for crystal lite before surgery and then after surgery I could not stand it.  The walmart brand s/f drinks will count towards your water intake and it is inexpensive.  Get cream soups, chicken or beef broth, s/f hot chocolate, splenda

For your family maybe you can cook ahead some meals and freeze them so all they have to do when you are home after surgery is to heat up the meals.  It will also help you with not going crazy smelling all the cooking.   Stay away from the TV and cooking channels. I remember crying watching all the food that was being advertised.  lol

I want to wish you all the best in your journey.  Please keep us posted.  If you need an angel I will be more than happy to be the one to contact your family and post an update to the MD forum.  You can count on me for support if you need it.

Stay blessed and know that the liquid diet will be hard for a little bit then it will be easy to get through it.

Take care and be blessed!

Cira

*waves* Hi everyone!  I am scheduled to have the Sleeve on may 11.  I start my liquid diet on April 25.  Nervous, excited, and scared.  Any tips, suggestions on preparing my family--especially my kids?
