Cira - How are you? I'm mending from gallbladder surgery and thought I'd play on the computer and wow, everyone is gone from our group. How nice to see you and doing well. I'm good, I've never gained any weight back. It's been almost 5 years already (lol). Linda

I spent months researching WLS surgeons. Go to JHH Bariatric Surgery, Dr Michael Schweitzer web site! . He has the lowest complication rate in Maryland. He was the first surgeon to do WLS using the Laprascope. He's excellent.and I would recommend him without hesitation.
Topic: Supportive Primary care
Hey everyone! I am looking for a new PCP, specifically one who can be supportive of me as I go through this process. I am in Gaithersburg and can get to Damascus, Germantown, Frederick, Olney, Rockville, anywhere in this area within Montgomery County would be fine. Actually I'll even travel a bit further if someone is really really wonderful. I do generally prefer female doctors but would consider a male. My last doctor was fine for the entire six months I was doing nutrtitional counseling, then went completely crazy when I asked her for a recommendation letter for insurance. :(

Don't know if anyone else has posted this before, but I found a podcast on iTunes, called, Bariatrci TV Support Chat Radio. There is also a companion video podcast. I've listened to a few episodes at night and while driving and they weren't half bad:)
If you know of any other ones, please share!

Dr. Averbach performed Roux-en-Y GPB on me last month. His practice is so wonderful and so helpful! His office staff has two people who make it their business to know exactly what your insurance requires for you to get approval. There is a nutrition program, so all of this is not a surprise when you're done. And they follow up - boy do they follow up! This is a life-long process and they treat it that way. The nutritionists and the nursing staff are a encyclopedia of information and are all so very nice! Dr. A. is also very nice and extremely knowledgeable. St. Agnes Hospital, is also lovely. I didn't have fun with my surgery by any means - I was glad to go home, LOL:)! But they made it a lot more bearable!

Does anyone know what happened to his practice? I hear he does not treat patients any longer- or atleast not in the area. Please help? I haven't followed up in a long time and need to.

I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Averbach. He is an excellent surgeon.

The surgeon I've been planning to use is Dr. Schweitzer at Johns Hopkins Bayview. However, I'm on my third different insurance company in 3 years (company got bought, then I changed companies 3 weeks ago) and none of them have been willing to pay for my VSG. So, I'm now looking at other surgeon options as I'm clearly going to have to be self-pay. They want $17,500 up front - ouch!!

I went with Dr. Christine Li at Sinai hospital in Baltimore. I looked at different Doctors and went to several seminars for about a year before I decided on a Doctor and a hospital. I liked Dr. Li and her program so much that I drive about an hour to see her. I am 6 weeks out of surgery (RNY) and know I made the right decision choosing Dr. Li, her staff, and Sinai Hospital. Check her out; you will have all the help and support you need from her and her staff.
