What to consider start weight - century mark??

Hey guys - stupid question....

My highest weight was 422 and i was 383 the day of surgery. I was curious what do you guys consider as the start weight. Is it the highest or DOS? The reason why I ask is that IF I use the highest weight (this is when I started the WLS journey) I am approaching the century mark. If I use the DOS date, then not.

I dont mean to post a trivial issue like this, but I was just curious.

Thanks.

I use the high weight which was my weight when I started the journey.   The surgery day weight was about 18 pounds less than the high.  The way I see it, it was all during the same weight loss attempt.

I say that if someone busted their ass to lose 50lbs prior to surgery, then they certainly earned the right to use whatever starting point they want.

Sean,  There are a lot of guys that list both their highest weight, and their weight on the day of surgery on the weekly weigh-in. I just use my highest weight myself because my highest is when I checked out of the hospital. Some could argue that some of that weight was fluid from the IV after surgery, but I use that weight anyway because it's my highest ever.  It's all good!  Ronnie

I agree with the guys who say use your highest weight--after all, you're the one who's had to lose all of, including the pre-surgery weight. Like Ronnie noted, for some us, our weight actually balloons right after surgery from IV fluids and the like. I was 319.5 on the hospital scale the day of my surgery and in the 330s when I got home two days later. But I started the process at 343, so that's what I count when calculating my weight loss. Whatever you choose, remember there is no set timetable in this game.

Hey Sean, I lost 25 pounds in the 3 weeks prior to my surgery, because i was on 800 calories per day..........  It was HARD as hell, and I absolutely count that 25 pounds in my weight loss.  It was me that did the work - just like I'm doing the work post-op by sticking to my nutrition and exercise plan and using my new tool that WLS gave me...... I'd count every pound lost! In my case, they removed a spleen, gall bladder, and a few extra feet of intestines and muscle tissue, etc.... I'm counting every once! Some great work there! You'll be slipping into the 200's Any day now! Keep it Up! Best Wishes- Dx

Yup, me too Sean - that is, I measure from my biggest weight 404 lbs which the Nutritionist took the first time I went to my surgeons offices. So, at 236 now, I'm down 168 all together. The fact that I had to be below 400 wasn't truly a hard thing to accomplish before the Dr would do the surgery for me....I went down to 387 lbs by my WLS day.... So, yeah, I'd say measure from your biggest !!! Jim
