what do you say to others?
Close friends/family know what I went through. Everyone else I just tell them that I eat less more often and I exercise daily. I don't think I should have to explain anything else to people I don't consider close to me. If someone were to come out and ask me if I had surgery I would definitely tell them yes, it's not something I'm ashamed of at all.
my answer for the longest time was "clean living" to which I got a big laugh. if they pressed me I told them I watched every thing I eat, which is true. now for the most part I tell them the truth, even now it I don't have the time or inclination I tell them "clean living"and just ley it go.

yeah, some people don't say anything because they think you got cancer or something. it's a personal thing that's been discussed here a lot. maybe do a search. some good posts. as for me, it's nobody's business and i don't do opinions very well when i'm the subject. i don't want to hear about the failures and easy way out stuff. i don't need to justify anything. so my answer is intestinal surgery! hell, it was! then i say i took advantage of the weight loss and got back into clean living...lol. all true. sometimes i admit my journey is just like wls which was something i was contemplating the same time i got sick.
so it's a personal thing. you can count on one hand the number of people i've told. i just don't want to hear it. of course when i pull out the drivers license at the store people pinch a loaf in their pants. they do triple takes and don't believe it's correct and i'm me. i kind of like that now and wish i hadn't lied about my weight on the license. how many of us did that? actually, i did get really sick, not Dx sick but sick. so for the longest time i really did look bad. plus the ambulance visited our house four times in two years and took me away. so my neighbors don't doubt i've had troubles. another thing you might find. some of us REALLY got back into shape. not just weight loss but got fit too. that will be all on YOU not the surgery. so don't let wls take credit for everything. you notice some of the replies say the surgery was one thing, the result another. yeah, you can lose the weight but what did you do after that? i'll tell ya, after the honeymoon, it's all you. but that's another post for another day.
look, no right or wrong. go with what you want to say. we have wls poster kids in here and some like me who crawl under rocks to avoid questions. so you have the whole range. i say tell loud and proud if you want. want to stay quite? then do so.....carbonblob
