Really embarrasing Question!
I'm 1 week short of being three months out RNY and I have, until now, had zero concerns or complications. However, as of the last week to 10 days, I have noticed a change in my bowel movements. I returned to almost normal BM's about 2 weeks after surgery and stayed that way up until recently. Now, I will feel as though I need to go, I will go, and what I produce is very thin, "different" looking stool. I've had no other symptoms, no blood, cramping, fatigue, and I feels as though I am emptying, I'm just concerned that this may not be normal. I never had this until now, so I'm thinking it may be related to my RNY. Any suggestions, other than go to the doc, which I have made an appointment for on Monday.
Thanks!
Examine what you've been eating lately. If it's not very course foods (chicken, veggies, etc) and it's more smooshy things like beans, cereals, etc then you may be seeing some consistency changes in your stool. Also look at how much fluids you're getting in each day, the more fluids the softer the stool in general. If it doesn't hurt and it's not diarrhea I wouldn't think it to be a huge issue. Good luck!

You are just begging for our old friend WAD to jump in the middle of this...
2 years ago...he had the same post....but if I recall...he was a little more descriptive...
"Before surgery, I used to be able to lay a big old Anaconda in the bottom of the crapper, now it more like a long garden snake.""""
(WAD is from Gastonia...by the way....)
anyway....I think things changes as we start to lose....
if you feel empty...that is the main thing....
now it i time for Baja's Poop analysis poster....
If I eat crappy food high in fat or bad carbs, my stools are mush city and I'm nearly 3 years post-WLS. It happens overnight so if I eat crappy one day, the next day I see the effects. Pretty cool to see how this works actually.
If I stick with the program (protein first and good carbs), my stools are a work of art if I do say say myself.
How's your diet been lately?

While we're on the topic.......do any of you guys have any info on how calcium citrate affects your stools. I went on a trip this past weekend and forgot to take my calcium tablets with me and now I've gone 4 more days with only taking them sporadically and I actually had a normal (or what used to be normal) experience on the commode today. Nice long turd came out with little or no pushing. The past couple of months have involved veins popping out all over my neck and forehead everytime I try to eject one of those bricks. The only thing I know of that I'm doing different is not being very good with the calcium. Is there something about calcium that bricks up our stools or what?
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
i am 2 years out and have been only taking 750 mg a day not 1500 like I should have because of reading the bottle wrong 2 years ago. At my 2 year follow up they told me to double my calcium citrate and i went from being a 2 times a day person to maybe once a day.I am really thinking of cutting back on the calcium. i have the same amount of food going in but half as much going out as before I raised my calcium intake
