I love my WLS and the USA!!!

I am in the process of going through my first real post-op trail, as my family and I are on vacation and while I no longer can 'pig out', I am eating a tad bit more than usual after surgery.

What was a real 'wow moment' was to be able to go to Wall-Mart in Utica, NY (near my surgeon where I had my 3-month post-op) and getting 2 pairs of larger size jeans @ $10 / pair and shorts at $5 - I love the USA and the cheap prices. What is even better, is that I have to be back in 5 weeks for my wife's surgery, when the clothes I just bought will be too big, and I can buy some more!

A question to you veterans out there: From your experience, what is an acceptable outcome from going on vacation and temporarily losing you weight loss path?

what is an acceptable outcome from going on vacation and temporarily losing you weight loss path? What??  Sorry, but you're not gonna get any "It's OK to slip while on vacation" "kissy-kissy, hugs-hugs"crap here. There ain't no "acceptable outcome". There's no reason why you can't continue on your WL path while on vacation, or anywhere else for that matter. There's all kinds of protein shakes, protein bullets, etc. that you can buy at WalMart or just about anywhere else. Hell, take a cooler full of your own peronal food with you.  WLS is a life long, 24/7 - 365 thing and it is up to YOU to hold up your part to be successful. Use your head and plan ahead!  Don't use vacation as an excuse to screw yourself!! Now, congrats on the FART at WalMart (WOW moments are for women)!  Keep up the good work brother!

Damn My Canuk Brother.. You are getting a double shot of Southern Lover here.... Bama is right...you gotta stay on it...and you may find...that some of the nasty stuff...just does not settle right after a while...and that you scavange looking for suitable food.. Do not try to find acceptable food at the "Longhorn Truckstop" out side Lake Charles Louisanna...they have none... nothing but coffee.... We just went to the Buffet at one of the casinos, and they had nothing to eat...It was ****** up...So I ate salad...but I guess what i'm saying...paln a head of time...nobody will watch your nutrition like you do... on the brighter note...a chick from the Texas board, just went to Disney...(I went last year) and they have decent food choices....smoked turkey on salad, grilled chicken....along with the crap food...and this chick lost 2 pounds...she ate right, and walked all day long.... (how about a Disney plateau buster)

Jeez Bama, file the nails, eh? But dude, Bama is right! You had weight loss surgery for a reason! There is no "slipping" EVER! Haha...we are all human guy. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to have a controlled amount of whatever everybody else is having. Just remember you had the surgery to lose your extra LBzz and you don't want to go on vacation and gain any weight back that you lost. Stay the course and you will be rewarded!

I for one am pumped to hear someone say they love the USA. And I'll admit that the two times I've been to Canada, I loved it up there too. Very charming people. And one of my ex-students is married to a Canadian hockey player who was playing for a local minor-league team down here at the time. I met his family at the wedding and they're good people.  I don't understand these ******** who continually spew their discontent with what is, from the perspective of the common man, a tiny sliver of greatness in a huge world of **** People are voting with their feet in droves for our way of life. Pick up a history book and it will be stock full of people who would consider what we have today to be an unobtainable fantasy. Thanks my Canadian brother for acknowledging that there is something worthwhile going on below the Great Lakes. And thanks to the Brittish navies of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries for giving both of our countries a chance to get started. And thanks to Britain itself for giving us a legacy of abiding by the rule of law. OK, that finishes my rant.  But Bama is right. (Kick that ass Bama, we all need a whuppin occasionally) It is totally possible to go on vacation w/o slipping in to old habits. I understand exactly where you're coming from. It's the old dieting mentality that told us that a diet couldn't possibly survive a vacation. I've damn sure got a long history of having diets come to a screeching halt due to a vacation or even a wknd beer fueled road trip. I don't know where you're going or what you're doing or what's available resturant wise in those geographical areas, but here's what I've found success with. 1) Breakfast Diners that serve a traditional breakfast. Some will serve you ala carte and save you some money, but even if they don't order something that includes eggs and eat the eggs. 2) BBQ places allow you to order a nice cut of smoked meat and maybe eat a little slaw or potato salad or beans on the side. 3) Get you a good steak every once in a while. Hell, you're on vacation. Splurge on a great piece of beef or pork. 4) A lot of places are acknowledging that people will pay to eat healthy and have grilled chicken on the menu. 5) Snackables. Those little Oscar Meyer packs with crackers meat and cheese. About 350 calories and they make about the right size meal for an early post-op.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.

Well guys, I knew my reply was pretty dang "in your face", but it was done out of concern for his continued success.  I don't want to encourage someone to screw-up. I know it is sometimes difficult when vacations and other social events happen.  But rather than have the mindset "It's OK if I mess up because of vacation or whatever", we have to plan ahead so that we don't mess up.   I totally support everyone here on their journey, and sometimes good old-fashioned "tuff luv" needs to be used rather than the ((HUGGS)) you get on some of the other boards.  I'd rather jump his ass and encourage him to stay the course than see him come back a week or two later and post "I totally screwed up and gained 10 pounds on vacation because I couldn't find the right food to eat".   That would be a downer for him for sure.  And besides, I did end on a friendly note and congratulate him on his Wally World FART! Of course Russ is probably right - this damn tooth already had me a little on edge!

Oh right that SUCKS! My dentist wants me to have my wisdom (yeah right, what wisdom?) teeth removed but my brother had his removed and he was in severe pain for a couple of weeks so I think I'm going to opt out of that. I was just messin with ya anyway. He knows this is the men's board and we're not gonna give him any slack like the women folk would! P.S: Hope you get that tooth all better!
