Arthrotec medicine?
Arthrotec is a combo drug. It's an anti-inflammatory, which should help with pain, combined with an anti-ulcer med called misoprostol. Because of the latter it should be safer, when it comes to not causing an ulcer, compared to a plain anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen.
The other thing that is interesting. If you happen to be pregnant when you take it, it'll cause you to go into labor.
So be careful.

Lance,
I've been on arthrotec for a long time, bith before and after surgery. It helps with my bad knees. It is a little difficult to swallow so be careful. It's very fdry and large( it has no coating on the outside to help it go down). I find If I take a big drink with it then there is no problem, in fact now at 1 1/2 years out I can swallow 2 together. But don't trythat right after surgery, just drink a lot with it and you'll have no problem.

Lance,
I have 3 herniated discs in my back also, but I was given Arthrotec for my knees. Not sure if it helps with the back, it helps with my knees some, narcotics help a lot more.
Don't forget everyone is different, try it maybe it will help. If it doesn't then discontinue it.
But I can see why you'd be scared to take this stuff right after surgery, they are hard to get down. Like I said use plenty of liquid to get it down. Don't forget I'm 1 1/2 years out and I have the band, so I'm in a little different situation than you.
You'll see once the weight starts dropping it will help your back too. Good luck.
