Hello Men.
Welcome aboard Scott. I'm 3 months post-op and down 112 lbs. Started back in the gym a cuple of weeks ago. Mostly conditioning right now with light/moderate weights & higher reps. Usually get in
1 1/2 = 2 miles on the treadmill each day. Since I am weight training again I really need to increase my protein intake, but am having trouble with that. I just don't have any desire for food, so will have to start drinking more protein shakes.
Glad ya joined us!

Scott,
Glad you found the board, my buddy David turned me onto the site before having my surgery, and I'll be forever grateful. This is fantastic place to get and give support. My buddy BamaBob really knows his **** when it comes to exercise and nutrition, he use to own a gym and was a personnel trainer, not to mention a hell of a power lifter. I need to get with him to set me up a routine But as Brian said really try to get your protein in. I was instructed by my WLS team 70-80g and apx. 74 ounces of liquid. At this stage a lot of your protein will come from liquid so you'll be killing two birds with one stone (Sorry PETA). C'ya Bob
Welcome aboard, Scott.
Other than walking the dog, I'm a runner now. I use the treadmill lately because of the heat, and smoke from local fires. I really enjoy a program that changes the % incline, and speed. It's nearly addictive. During the Fall / Winter / Spring I run outdoors. My daily run is about 2 miles now. I think the summer has been bad for my endurance, but I'm excited to build it back up again. My current goal is to run to the airport and back (5 miles) by August 24th.
I follow the 80-100g of protein daily. I pretty much drink two or three shakes during the day and fill in the rest with deli turkey, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. I'm out 1.5 years now, so eating wrong foods is all too easy. I miss the honeymoon.

Welcome Scott!
When I was just post op, I struggled to get in 60 Grams of protein a day with my 64 ounces of fluid. Now at almost 4 months post op I get between 2 1/2 and 3 liters of fluid a day and 90 to 110 grams of protein a day. Depending on what I eat I get in 800 to 1000 calories a day, usually closer to 800, but I am not really watching my calories, I tend to watch my sugar and fat intake and the calories tend to fall into line. I can't remember which guy made the comment that your food choices should have around 10 calories per gram of protein. Is a great easy to follow rule of thumb.
In my humble opion, I think your walking is going to be a being help during the first few weeks following surgery. My wife and I did not feel as exhausted post op as many others had complained of to us and we were walking about 4 miles a day 1 week post op. My opion is that there are very few times when exercise is not helpful in your life. (hard to believe that a tried and true couch potatoe could ever mutter these words) I am currently spending about and hour and a half at the gym each day before work and I am really feeling great.
Good luck, there are some really great guys here. If you have a question, there is always someone with some knowledge on the subject and nothing is off limits.
