Newly Banded
Congrats on your surgery. I agree with Robert on the protein. Plus you are going to be week for a while just from the anesthetic and the shock to your system from the surgery. Just do what you can and give your body a chance to recover. Easy to say and hard to do but patients is your friend right now. Hang in there and time will pass faster than you think and you will really benefit your energy levels as the weight drops off and you get going with your exercise program. Best wishes for a smooth ride.

Joseph'sdad, here is my .02 FWIW:
After I got banded, I felt better once the laprascopic gas finally dissipated. It made me hurt all the way up to the top of my left shoulder blade, and that gradually faded out over about 3 weeks. Over the same period of time the port area began to solidly heal. Until it did, it really hurt to lean forward or even turn over when sleeping if I put any tension on the muscles in that area. The good news is that after about 4 weeks, I felt great, even better than before surgery since I lost about 20 lbs. in the first month.
You'll be pleasantly surprised in about 3 more weeks when you suddenly realize you feel much better. Your diet will change, too, as you graduate toward more substantial food, and this will help out a lot since your activity level is increasing as you recover. Be sure to ask your doctor about when you can get started with an exercise program, too. I started 2 weeks to the day after surgery with jogging on a treadmill, nothing too strenuous, but enough to know I was doing something. After just 2 weeks of jogging, I could really notice the difference in how much more energy I had. You will too!
Good luck and hang in there, you are headed toward better days real soon!

Josephsdad,
It's funny, I remember after getting my band you say to yuorself (you'll read a lot of guys here have said the same thing) what the hell did I do to myself. But believe it does get better. You may have a few setbacks as time goes on. But if you follow your Dr.'s orders everything will work itself out and go smooth.
You went back to work pretty fast, it hasen't even been 1 week yet. You have to give yourself a couple of weeks to start feeling better. Everyone is different, I don't think you can say everyone will feel better after the same amount of time.
But what is universal no matter what type of surgery you have is: drink a lot of water, do a lot of walkingt and never trust a fart! Best of luck on your recovery.

I'm only two days ahead of you, so I probably don't have much to add. I had a tough day Saturday, but felt great yesterday. Today, a bit of nausea and lower-chest pain, but better than Saturday. Tonight, I feel really good. My doc's post-surgery instructions let me go to "mushy food" today, so I got to have scrambled eggs for dinner. Eating "real food" was wonderful! I hope your doc isn't a two-weeks of liquid surgeon. (I believe in doing what the doc tells me. If my doc said "two weeks liquid" that's what I would be doing. I asked Dr. M why his instructions were different, and he said that they had done more than 1,200 lap bands and found that mushy foods in a week works as well as waiting two weeks. Scrambled eggs! Woo hoo!)
Best of luck. I bet you start having "good periods" soon.
