This Brotherhood of Men
I was writing in my journal about 1/2 hour ago when it occured to me how much I love this forum. It's a brotherhood of men who I mostly know only on line. And, I've met all of you through this site. Just writing that is strange in itself since I've made some very strong online friendships with men I've met through ObestiyHelp.com who I didn't know before I came here. There are many of you who I only know through posting on this forum. Then, there some others who've I've come to know a lot better through direct e-mail correspondence. If I feel the need and the comfort level, I'll "CONTACT" someone through ObesityHelp.com and develop an online relationship. A select few ot thes men have my regular e-mail address and a still smaller group have my phone number.
I'm sure many of you can have friends here that start out the same way. You read posts by someone like you and you write to them and find out that you share more than just a weight problem. One of my oldest online relationships is with Jack N from Cincinatti. We go back years and share more characteristics than I want to tell most of you. I met Jeff M from Virginia City before there was a Men's forum and only correspond with him by e-mail. Similarly there's Tim from FL, a member of the Ratz dixieland band, who went from being super morbidly obese to being able to play his college age sons in basketball within about a year and a half.
There are several others that I just can't think of at this moment. Kevin has become a good buddy. I'm just starting to know Bob L but he has the distinction of being the only guy from here that I've actually met in person. Now, that was really cool!
My advice to the newer guys on this forum is to post here. Open up and "get your feet wet." You can decide whether you want to respond to someone's post by replying or by Contacting them. You can make good online friends here. Even if you don't, you will get support that you do need.
When it comes to deciding whether to post a reply or to Contact someone, I often try to decide whether my response would benefit the group or only that individual. Most of the time, I just post a response. Sometime, especially when my line of thinking may go against the grain, I'll contact the person directly. And, of course, sometimes I'll post a response And send a separte Contact to the individual.
I want to thank all of you who have supported me throughout the years. I know I come across as a contrary so and so sometimes. I can blame that on moodiness or on being manic-depressive, but it just may be some character flaws. I have a lifetime to work on them.
That's enough for this post. Thanks again for being here. Bob

I could'nt agree more, this is a special place and we are a Brotherhood. I hate to think of what would happen it were not for this board. I for one would be lost without it. While I have not met anyone in person from here, I'm thinking of attending the OH event in Philly and maybe I can hook up with some of the guys from here.
Bob you have been a source of inspiration to me also. You don't pull punches and you understand a lot of my issues also. We go back so far. I fell proud to call you an online brother.
Many of you guys also are becoming online friends and we share a lot. On this board we don't pull ounches so sometimes ya gotta get your butt kicked but in a nice way.
We have to hold our own because we are way out numbered on other forums and we need this little place of our own. If you know of any men please invite them to join our fellowship
