My first event!
Greets, gents.
I'm so happy to report that I've signed up for my first sporting event. I'm going to complete the Super Sprint Golden State Triathlon in October. It's being held in Sacramento, CA.
I've never done one before, so I'm starting a specific day-by-day triathlon training schedule which combines biking / running / swimming. I'm also looking for a wetsuit to use for the race day, and train in for the last month.
Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone done one of these?

I have been walking and jogging at least 4 days a week. I have been trying to alternate between speed and distance work. I have been in the pool as much as possible, which is not enough haha. I just received a wet suit from a friend, and it certainly makes the swim feel different. It really does help with your ability to float. I try to ride my bike to work each day, it's about 3.25 miles each way and a 2 mile side trip to the gym after work.
On saturdays, I either go for a longer bike ride 10-15 miles, or I go to the gym and run a little triathlon myself. Usually half the distance of what the event is going to be in Sacramento.
200 yard swim, 4 mile ride, 1 mile run. I have done the full evet a couple times (400 yard swim, 8 mile ride, 2 mile run), but I am seriously fighting an energy issue right now. I feel like I run out of juice almost right away, especially on the run. Instead of getting easier, it seems to be getting harder.
I'm going to focus a bit more the next 3 weeks. I am increasing my protein intake, and adding some upper body workouts. I will probably try to get in 2.5-3 miles of running 3 times a week and add in some swimming. The biking to work will take care of that part for me.
I thought the swim would be the easiest, I've always been a water dog, but I haven't been in the water seriously swimming for many years. Right now I would say the bike will be the easiest, followed by the swim and then the evil run, which has never been a thing of enjoyment for me.
What are you doing?

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I've been running about two miles daily on a treadmill at the gym. I've also mixed some of those days up with some lap swimming. As of yet, my biking has been pretty non-existent. Maybe twice a month I ride out to the airport and back, which is five miles.
Monday I'm starting an 8 week training schedule that I found online. It has prescribed bike / swim / run amounts per day.
I decided on doing the super sprint (shorter) for my first one. Are you doing the full triathlon? Mine is 200 yds swim, 5 mile bike, 1 mile run. I really wanted something successful for my first go; not that this is anything to shake a stick at!
My future goals are to do a full triathlon next year in the spring, then sometime in end of the summer, climb Mt. Shasta. I may be putting together a group to go if anyone is interested. It's 14k ft climb in Northern California. It's also an active volcano! (though very dormant, so they say)

I love mount shasta and might be interested in going. I used to live north of Shasta in Montague/Yreka & Big Springs area. It was like having Shasta in the back yard.
I have been up Mt. Lassen, have you tried that one? Granted I did it when I was a kid in the boyscouts many years ago, but it was fun. It might be a good warm up for you.
