Do you guys eat breakfast?

Boner,

I have a huge one-quart coffee/protein/cocoa powder concoction. Once that's gone, I take two tablespoons of flax oil. A couple hours later, I'll eat a high volume low density serving of something that usually really fills me up. Okara, or soybean pulp, the leftovers from tofu production and eggs and pistachios, for example. Daytime food is every three hours and usually consists of chicken salad made from pressure-cooked chicken breast, fresh veggies, some bouillion powder, maybe with some nuts on the side.

When I come home, I'll usually have a salad first, then a protein. If I've been exercising a ton, I'll eat ice cream first. For some reason, a semi-dump fills me up and I'm unable to eat as much of the other stuff.

Best Wishes,

Dave

I'm with Russ, I've had my morning dump pretty much all of my life. I'd really start to worry if I missed one. The coffee pretty much insures that I'll get one, especially together with protein. I always take my vits with something high fiber as well.

I can't eat all day long unless it's sweets or starches, then there's work too, which prevents me from eating more than every three hours. I was always a "solid food" kind of guy. I just ate a lot of it. Can't do that now.

I'm gonna revert back to my pre-heart attack Personal Trainer and Nutritional study days, and what I'm about to say may shock you fellas - but try to follow what I'm saying. Eating breakfast actually jumpstarts your metabolism. Breakfast literally means "break the fast". When you sleep, you are actually in a mini-fast. Also, when you sleep, your body slows down and rejuvenates and repairs itself. Your heart rate, metabolism and everything slows down and goes into a rest and repair mode. By eating breakfast, you actually "wake up" the metabolic process again.  Actually, there are really only two ways to increase your metabolism (not including drugs) - exercise and eating. Yes - eating -because your body has to process the food which you eat - whi*****reases your metabolism.  When I was in top physical shape before my heart attacks, my typical nutritional plan/exercise plan was something like this:

5:00 a.m - Treadmill for 30-40 minutes
6:00 a.m. - Breakfast: Oatmeal, 1 piece of wheat toast, 8 oz. skim milk
9:00 a.m. - Snack: Sugar free/fat free yogurt or protein shake
12:00 noon - Lunch: 6 0z. tuna fish, 10 crackers, protein shake
3:00 p.m. - Snack: Medium size fruit (apple, orange, or banana)
5:30 p.m. - Weight training (Split routine) & 30 min. cardio
Immediately after workout - protein shake
7:30 p.m - Chicken breast, baked potato, 1 cup vegetables
10:00 p.m. - Protein shake

Now remember, I was working out hard, and doing cardio twice a day, so I was using the calories I ate for fuel and the protein went to build muscle. 3500 calories = 1 pound, so you have to balance the "calories in" with the "calories out" according to your activity level. If you put more in than you burn, you get fat.  By exercising everyday, I actually "trained" my body to burn calories rather storing calories for future use.

After  the heart attacks, I was on 13 different meds, including 2 beta blockers to slow my heart rate, cholesterol medication, BP medicine and a few other meds to boot. I was instructed by my first cardiologist NOT to exercise, and to definitely not lift any weights. My activity level went from high volume to absolutely zero. This in turn slammed my metabolism and it dropped like a rock. I started packing on the pounds so fast that it was pathetic.  I went from a solid, muscular 230 pounds to a flabby, 295 pounds in just six months.  Talk about depressing!

After a year, I finally changed cardiologists because all the first one would do is prescribe another medication and tell me I could not exercise because it was "protocol after heart attacks".  What a bunch of BS! And I should have known better, but after something as traumatic as a heart attack (let alone 5), you really want to trust the "experts"!

Now that I've had WLS, I really have a hard time eating breakfast and usually grab a protein shake or protein bullet followed by a cup of coffee. I am working on getting back to eating breakfast on a regular basis, but it is really hard because I just do not want to eat most days.

Sorry for the long post, but I actually could have added a crapload more about this (stuff like "starvation mode" from dieting, yo-yoing, etc.) but I'll shut the hell up for now!

Sheeshhhhh - now I know how Dx must feel!! BwaHahahahaha!!

I normally drink breakfast... a few vodka tonics before I have to deal with my wife..>ROFL.

KIDDING!!!!! (not about the wife part..LOL).

Anyway I normally have a protein drink for breakfast and some type of carb, bagel or cake or cookies...something. I always try to eat something by 10....even if it's just a piece of fruit. I do have premade protein shakes ready to go, so if I have to leave, I can take one with me.

Like Steve M., I just don't feel much like eating for a few hours after waking up (at 4:30 a.m.). I have 3-4 ounces of skim milk with 27g of protein powder. About 11am I have 3oz of lean deli with 1 oz of cheese. I nuke that in the office microwave.
