New Bike

Okay,  all you bike riders have convinced this old fart that I needed to start riding.  I've been walking for exercise but have some bone on bone in the left knee that biking should treat better than pounding the pavement does.  Still have  a lot of poundage for the bike to hold up so went with a comfort bike (nice wide seat and heavy frame) - Raleigh Venture

Bike Photo: Venture

It's been a lot of years since I rode but I can already tell this is gonna be fun.  No fifty mile rides yet, but I'll get there someday.

Nice lookin' bike there Steve. Congratulations! Great choice with the heavier frame. I was still tipping 400 pounds when I started riding my old 25 year old steel UniVega bike. It served me well until I got down to the mid-200s when I bought a carbon Lemond road bike.

See you in RAGBRAI2009, huh? Hope this is appropriate but since my oldest brother "gaduated" from the U. of Arkansas, I can't resist......Piiiiiiiiiiiiiggggg Souie!!

Thanks for the hog call.   Since these are popular after football wins, it may be one of the few hog calls I hear this year.  i hear it hard to have a good defense wihout any linebackers.

In a thread a while back, someone spoke up this bike and was very happy.  I am glad for your new ride.  I have been to their site and liked the choices.  If you would, can you give us a report when you had had a chance to get used to it?  Also, the ballpark price you paid will help also.

This looks like a great choice.

Way cool.  Just a couple of thoughts.  I'm thinking of the words ride and rest.  Try not to push yourself the first few days, just ride comfortably then pull off somewhere and res****er...a little protein snack...take in the view.  Then ride somemore.  Jus****ching for the burnout factor.  Example we go to the gym to get inshape...push our bodies way to hard and they say "forget it"!  Just enjoy the ride.  Brian

Very nice bike. About a year ago I bought a Specialized hybrid with a heavy duty frame, a nice wide seat and special heavy load tires wheels. I love my bike! See you at RAGBRAI '09!

Congrats on the new bike Steve! Nice looking bike!  Good going on getting a bike for ore exercising.

I bought a Diamondback Wildwood Comfort bike for myself and one for the wife a couple of months ago. Got 'em at DICK'S SPORTING GOODS on sale for $279.00.  Pretty good bikes for what we wanted to spend and will use them for,  but nothing like some of the high dollar Carbondale and other bikes.

Now I just need to find more time to get out and ride it!! Of course, doubt I'll never be in the league of Boner and Bob L.  - they are some cycling fools!!

P.S. - I also have another bike and it's a Venture too. But it's made by Yamaha, has a V-4, 5 speed tranny, radio/CB/ intercom, cruise control and purrs along at 70 mph with just the twist of the grip!! Hehehehe!!
