Leg workout information

I decided to post some leg workout advice for the good people on the forum.  Please implement some swats and deadlifts in your leg routines.  When I am in the gym I see people doing everything except these two exercises which are the core of leg workout.  When you do swats and deadlifts, you are working your entire body but really hitting your lower body.  Swats and deadlift**** the entire leg including your gluts (butt) like no other exercise.   And ladies, these two exercise will really give you those legs you are seeking and a nice firm butt...  Just don't go too heavy.  You aren't trying to build mass but firm up.  Good luck.

Great Advice, Garion!

Although I gave up all but jump squats (supposedly regular low squats slow you down in running and other sports, because the rep execution is as different as night and day), deadlifts are great in that they work 70% of the body. Both can be excellent cardio workouts as well. I combine the deadlifts and jump squats with sprints.

I'm not sure what the equation for no knee problems is. Maybe luck? Maybe natural flexibility? A lot of folks will have those to deal with.

A couple of other recipes for glute shape? Lunges and Yoga. Yoga done regularly (particularly the female oriented Yoga done in yoga salons, I do the more male oriented P90X yoga as well),  has you lifting your heels to or above waist level, which strengthens all of the muscles around the hip, especially the butt. I've noticed my upper butt muscles are starting to pull my front pockets out lately from this, fashion-wise not so good, but the body part looks good and it helps prevent lower back problems.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Squats and deadlifts are great exercises for sure, Garion. I've only been back in the gym for about a month now, so I am still in the conditioning phase of weight training. But I will definitely be including squats and deadlifts later.

Before my heart attacks (5) when I was in top physical shape and worked out 5-6 days a week, deadlifts were one of my favorite exercises. I had worked up to 650 lbs.  Of course, after the heart problems, pacemaker and stent, I doubt I will ever lift that heavy again, but I will definitely be deadlifting. Hopefully I'll be able to get up to the 400 range, but will just have to see.

As for squats, my max was 650 lbs. for 2 reps. Again, I'll never see that again, and really don't want to squat that much. But if I can get to 350-400 range at age 55 with my heart problems, I'll be satisfied. Hell, even if I don't reach those goals, I'm just happy to be able to exercise and get healthier again!!

The heart attacks and resulting health problems they caused such as obesity, pre-diabetes, etc. really screws with my head sometimes. It's really depressing to remember what great physical shape I was in and yet still had heart problems. The cardiologist said "You can't choose your Mama and Daddy".  True, but it still sucks!

Oh well, at least I'm still here and able to go after it again!!
