IDGOMB Sunday edition

Can you imagine me posting here?  Well, this is a very weak effort on my part.  I took approximately 200 steps on my front porch using the new Trike.  I realize that I can walk that distance with a cane (sometimes) or my rollator but after 3 1/2 years since my revision RNY that's my limit because of pain in my knees.  So, 200 steps is a starting point.  There will be days when I'll do this more than once per day.  And, eventually I'll be increasing the number of steps and the duration of my walk.  I don't work and have virtually all the time in the world.  Althought it's going to be hot and muggy today, I might get another small workout tonight when the sun has set.  The porch is covered and lit.  Bob

Atta boy jbob! Good for you man!  That's how ya do it - do what ya can, then try to do a little more next time, and so on. Before ya know it, you'll be able to do double what ya can now!! It's great that you are doing what you can - and ya should be posting it here!! Very inspiring in my book!!

This is my first post in the men's forum and I had to say your post was great.  Way to make positive decisions that will help you.  I haven't excercised yet today and I will after I finish a HORSE poker game I'm in right now.

Sunday was an easy day. Jogged for 30 minutes then later did the hot Yoga with hot instructors for 90 minutes.

jBob I hope you don't mind me saying this but if people knew really the difficulty you have getting around they would be even more impressed! No excuses like Nike you just do it! Great effort.

Today I did my all time best 42 miles, got some clip on shoes yesterday and they are a challenge. I guess they make you aligned properly and yes to those that use them even after being warned I fell twice and laughed my azz off for being so stupid!  Oh and yes my butt hurts...C'ya Bob

Ain't nuthin' stupid about falling when you first start using clips, RockyTop. I would suggest you ride in the park on a sidewalk with nice cushy grass on the sides then practice getting in and out of the clips. That way when you fall, you minimize the damage to your bike cause remember the rule: "Save the bike first!"

By the way, HOLY CRAP on the 42 miles! Keep pushing me man.....THANKS (I think)!

P.S. I hadn't read your post prior to my post to SJ.....but I kept thinking NO EXCUSES yesterday as well. Great minds think alike, huh???

I remember my first experience with the clips. I was riding on the rode and came to red light and had to stop. Went to put my foot down and couldn't and soon had rolled on my back with the bike in the air (not good for the clothes!).

You've probably picked this up, but you have to lead with the heel. If the heel moves substantially left or right, the shoe cleat is going to detach from the pedal.

Best Wishes,

Dave

By the way, I told my bro that my groin is sore from doing this and asked if he knew of any exercises to stretch that area.  I thought I might do well to only use the Trike every other day until I feel better.  He doesn't know of any stretches for that area, but he said I should reduce the exercise my 10%, i.e., do only 180 steps instead of going to every other day.  I did plan on doing other exercise on the other days.  He said that cyclists use the 10% rule for increasing their distance.  He advised me to not do too much too soon.  I guess I didn't realize just what bad shape I'm in.  As to the 10% rule, he said to increase my workout by 10% per week.

Hey SJ

Thanks for the inspiration brother. I would have posted this last night but the network was down. Anywho, I read your post and Bama's response prior to going out on what was going to be a 20 or max 30 mile cruise yesterday. After seeing the posts, "Katie bar the frickin' door" !!

I went out and ripped off my fastest 100 kilometer (67 miles) ride ever. Seriously, when I would get to the point of backing off, I thought of you on your trike and the phrase NO EXCUSES would pop into my head. I would then proceed to crank it back up.

Stopped halfway through for a Jr. Roast Beef at Arby's, woofed it down, puked (note to self: don't woof down food no matter how hungry I get  ), then hit the road back.

Thanks again, SJ. Team Tour de Fat be rockin' !!
