Protein bullets
Hi
To try them, you can go to a place like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and buy them. They are 3 ounce vials filled with liquid protein, flavored. The taste is sort of like drinking melted jello. (I mix mine with water). The vials I use have 42 gm. of protein, and I think they are also available in a lower dosage. They come in 4 or 5 flavors and are very doable.
You will hear some talk about it not being a good source of protein compared to the powdered whey. This is correct, but only to a point. As long as you are using them to supplement your daily protein intake, you should be fine. Basically, you would not want to live on them alone with no other sources of protein (as it is not a complete protein). If you feel the need to boost your protein, especially after surgery, it is a valid way to go.
Once you find a brand and flavor you are OK with, you can usually find a source online to help reduce costs. They are not cheap, but are useful.

Whey protein has a high bioavailability, can be purchased relatively inexpensively, and is available at almost any food, drug, or discount store (walmart has several brands in stock at all times). I'm allergic to whey so I have to take in egg protein shakes, which is suppose to be pretty good in terms of bioavailability, and is a very complete protein.
On the other hand, I still use the bullets myself...lol...but it's not the only source of protein I use. I take them with me when I travel, when I've gone into the hospital for surgery (yeah try to get 200 grams of protein in a day at a hospital...good luck), and I use them if I have to rush out of hte house without breakfast. They may not be the best form of protein but I figure something is better then nothing.
I also eat protein bars (love the atkins chocolate peanut butter)..of course all this is in addition to a high protein diet.
