When Cute, Younger Gals Start Paying For Your Meals Anonymously ..

I was eating out earler tonight after work at one of my fav local Mexican eateries .. When I went to leave and pay my check, the server informed me that my tab had already been paid.
I was almost scared to ask, but got up the nerve and asked, "by whom?" The server pointed at an empty booth that had been occupied earlier and said, "those two gals that were sitting there." 
I was stunned. Those two gals were two much younger, kinda cute gals (one was actually pretty hot 
) .. I never even made eye contact with them though (the hot one was sitting with her back mostly to me from my adjacent table 
). I did kinda check them out with my eyes when they got up to leave earlier (esp. the latter one), but didn't think they had as much glanced at me at the time. 
Is this something gals have now started doing with guys, that we used to do only with them? Or was something more sinister or "designing" going on?
I was probably old enough to be their dad. I have no idea who those gals were or how to get ahold of them, or whether I will even see them again (I never did before that night). They didn't stick around. I can think of about a million different ulterior motives the gals might have had in mind (drunk? on the re-bound? preggers? trying to make someone jealous?, a practical/cruel joke? a dare? I looked so sad/lonely? etc. etc. etc.) for why they did what they did, but I would LIKE to think they may have simply been thinking, "hey, there's a kinda cute guy I'd like to meet some time .." 
Actually, NotDave .. that's an interesting issue ..
It used to be that lawyers were respected as a profession, akin to a medical doctor and such, in our country .. But nowdays "lawyer bashing" seems to be all the rage, an outgrowth of "tort reform" and such .. (or maybe the other way around?) .. Look at all the lawyer jokes floating around out there the last few years .. If we ARE successful, people seem to look at it like "blood money" or that we somehow cheated someone out of it .. (ugh!)
I like to joke that when I'm not at the office I"m an "undercover lawyer" .. I don't dress like one and try not to talk about law or even let people know I am one, unless I feel it's important .. &:-x)

Here's another thought: Maybe you experienced a Random Act Of Kindness(tm) from someone? Motivation is optional.
I've done that kind of thing before, just to mess with the mark's head in a good way. I did it for an old neighbor one time, when I noticed she was 2 cars behind me at the local McDonald's (she bought her dogs cheap burgers every night). I had a good ol' time watching her go crazy for 3 days trying to figure out who paid her tab.
I've also paid the toll for the car behind me on the WV Turnpike.
