What are you doing to learn to "love" exercise?

I contend that getting down to goal weight then maintaining that healthy weight requires a good dose of daily exercise. Keeping weight off over the long haul sounds simple since it's calories in must be less than or equal to calories burned.

Maybe you'll be one of those fortunate few who find the intestinal fortitude (pun intented  )to totally control the calories in side of the equation by mastering what and how much you eat after the WLS honeymoon is over. I'm not  so fortunate in this regard as I struggle daily with controlling the volume of the food I eat each and every day. I eat much healthier now which is a great benefit both from a total calories perspective and from a "food as fuel" perspective. On the other hand, you can still get fat from eating too much healthy food.

That said, I use the calories burned side of the equation to control my weight. Obviously, cycling has become a love for me and I feel blessed to have found a source of exercise which I can truly enjoy. I can assure you though it didn't start out that way as it was just a way to "lose weight."

As winter approaches, I know I need to find another exercise avenue to avoid the poundage I typically put on as I go into "hibernation." To supplement my cycling, I just signed up for a recreational basketball league with the hope it will provide me with the enjoyment I need to get me through the winter months.

So, what are you current exercise plans on discovering a personal exercise passion?

Thanks

Uh, by talking the Y staff into strategically placing my favorite stationary bike so I have the optimum visual range to watch all the bouncing boobies on the treadmills...

Sounds like someone has been to my local Y.
My favorite treadmill face the adductor/abductor machine.
Those girls wearing the short shorts certainly take your mind off the long miles on the treadmill.

I was wondering if they placed it there on purpose.

I think I still have flashbacks from the first time I tried to use a treadmill at the gym ..  It was at what used to be called one of the "Q-Clubs" ..  (I think 24-Hour Fitness bought them out) ... I was a pre-op and I got on one and started her up ..  The next thing I knew, I was doing the George Jetson thing on it (remember what happened when Astro jumped on it and ran so fast after the cat?)      I still remember the jock on the one next to mine laughing his head off at my expanse ..      I vowed never to try to get on one again ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

I am still working on finding what I like. Mostly everything makes me hurt some where and most of the fun goes out of it. I am spending my time at Dr appointments to find out if there is a fix for what hurts so that I can get back to the exercising.

I did however fully enjoy walking for a full hour today in a park in Boston. Quiet tiny trails with maybe 3 people in the course of an hour! Saw all kinds of different little wild life even though I was near the rush of city traffic too. I will pay for that walk but hopefully with some perseverance and a little Dr intervention I can do it again and again. I find I do like the out doors in the quiet.

Next summer is the outdoors bike. For now short rides on the stationary bike.

3 weeks out and I do not know how I will ever control this damn head that wants to eat any thing not nailed down even if the Dr said NO! Grrrrr!

I like to discover new forms of motion alongside my weight training or during 4-8 week changes of pace that take me away from my current routine. Last year alongside my running was Pose running. I took over 25 videos of my running and uploaded them at different times for coaches to analyze. This Summer I did the P90X DVD's which contain Yoga, Karate, Jump training, Core Training and several weight training workouts. And I also did Bikram hot yoga.

The motion keeps me going, as well as the "wows" from hot chicks.

Sorry, meant to say that the Pose method of teaching running technique was something that I did alongside my "weight training." It also added an interesting facet to the regular HIIT sprinting/ interval training. It was 4:00 a.m. when I wrote that.

I've always liked walking. When you're in the people business and have to deal with people all day long for a living, and then go home at night to a wife who needs to talk her day out, and two teenage daughters who are.......well......normal jabberbox teenaged girls, it's nice to get out on the street all by yourself and get into your own little world.

I tried lifting back in June, but I don't think I was getting enough nutrition in back then to recover the way you need to. I ran out of gas before I got much good done, and them my muscles and joints just hurt, rather than having that good sore feeling, for the next 3 or 4 days. I started lifting again last week and have gotten 3 good workouts in and I'm starting to get those positive post-lifting results. Kind of a swolen soreness that feels satisfying. I'm gonna try to get on a lifting binge like I used to do back when I was in my thirties here in the next 6 months or so.
