4 Pounds!?! Almost overnight!

Ok, I know this has probably been talked about before, but I can't remember what was said.  I also know that getting on the scale every morning is BAD, but I sort of "need" to, it helps me to keep going.  That being said, the scale read FOUR $#@(! pounds heavier this monring than yesterday!  What in the heck happened?  I did have sort of a bad day yesterday, too much snacking, and no exercise (busy day at work/with kids).  But their aint no way I've gained 4 pounds in such a short period of time, is there?  I'm going to use this as a lesson learned moment and get back on track as of today.  I've gone through too much to ruin it now.  I CANNOT be gaining weight, absoulutely not.  I have failed at every "diet" I've ever tried and will not fail at this.

When you gain or lose more than a pound or so in 24 hours, you have to remember that you can't have gained or lost that weight in fat; that would have been more than 14,000 calories, something that's physically impossible to ingest after WLS.

It's jus****er (and maybe some crap).  A pint's a pound.  Too much salt yesterday?  A few pints of water retention, that's all.  Haven't taken a crap in a day or so?  That's another pound or two.

After my hip surgery 7 weeks ago, I gained almost 20 pounds in the hospital and over the week afterwards.  Of course, it was all  water -- both legs, but especially the operated one, were looking like balloons (or sausages).  I just kept telling myself what I've just told you.  But BOY was it aggravating, and in this particular case, it took weeks to resolve.  But my body "kept losing" all during this time.  Now, when I look at my weight tracker, I have a pretty linear rate of weight loss, a sudden blip, followed by a rapid resolution when my "water broke".    Once the water was gone, my weight was back at the predicted point of the slope as if I hadn't had the surgery or the sudden increase in weight.

FooBear got it right, it's jus****er.  Same thing happened to me this weekend.  I'm 7 months out and only about 30 lbs from my goal.

I was thinking that after this month I would be down to about 215-217.  Well, I went out with the wife to celebrate our 16th anniversary and happend across a bottle of wine that kept calling my name.   (I know, spare me the lectures, I haven't drank much at all for the past 7 months)

Immediately, the next day, I was up 4 pounds and it's been on me since last Friday.

Just hang tough, stay on program and it will go away.

I'm like you I need to get on those scales almost every day.  And like you yesterday I weighed in at 197 lbs (down from 330 lbs 15 montyhs ago) and this morning I weighed 200 lbs, and as the others said it will go away.

That's why you want to take bodily measurements at various times as a post-op, for purposes of comparison as you progress  ..  At times like this, you'll see that you possibly have still lost some inches (and I don't mean from the unit   ) since the last measurement session, despite an increase in "lb.age"

Thanks everybody, I'm down 1.5 today but still can't seem to shake it all off!  I'm sure it'll come off eventually, I'm just REALLY ready to get to goal, if possible.

Batwingsman:  Thanks!  Yeah, she's our little angel.  We actually have heard that before, I'm not sure though.  Not alot of opportunity for that in Eastern NC, unless she appeared in an ad for Food Stamps or Liquor!  LOL  You should have seen her as a newborn, she had the darkest/richest looking brown eyes I've ever seen on a baby!  She's the spitting image of her mother.

Ditto to what has been said.  I am bouncing between 220-230 like it is no bodies business.  I am up down and up down.  I often wonder if this is where I am meant to be.  I feel great and look great.  I am very happy with where I am.  I was getting upset and becoming a scale ***** like you said you are doing, but I have just learned to deal with it and I am just not going to worry about it anymore.  I am trying to eat right and I work out like crazy.  things will take care of themselves.
