Trinity Hospital Now A "Center of Excellence" / Medicare Accepted?
Saw a brief commercial on T.V. this a.m. for the first time for Trinity Hospital in Dallas and their bariatric program (V.S.G. and band, IIRC) ..
They were touting the fact in it that Trinity has just now been certified as a Bariatric Center of Excellence, making it eligible for some private ins. and Medicare coverage ..
I have heard that Trinity is rather a "low-end" hospital, so I have a hunch a lot of the surgeries being done there will be through Medicare, quite fortunately ..
They did advertise a cash pay special for band and V.S.G. in the commercial of "less than $12K", IIRC
Does anyone know which of the area surgeons do their WLS there?

Yes, there are not that many WLSers that have surgery after that age .. In fact, some surgeons are reluctant to peform WLS on patients above that age due to the additional risk their age adds to the procedure ..
However, you don't have to be 65 to be eligible for Medicare .. Persons *****ceive social security disabiltiy or receive SSI benefits (of all ages) are also eligible for Medicare .. And believe me, there are plenty of good persons out there who are disabled due to their MO or SO condition and/or their co-morbidities ..
In fact, for those persons who don't have private insurance or cannot afford to cash pay, Medicare may be their only avenue to getting WLS .. Thank God S.S. approved WLS as a covered procedure over 2 years ago .

Hi guys,
You don't have to be over 65 to be on Medicare. I'm 55 and I've been on Medicare since I was 52. I retired after 30 years with Verizon but had some medical problems so I applied for Docial Security disability and was approved. After being on disability for 2 years you are automactically put into Medicare.
I had my lapband done under Medicare, but the only way they would approve it was it had to be done at a hospital that was a center of excellence. that was the only type of hospital I could go to.
I see now that many more hospitals are being designated as centers of excellence.
I just wan't to show you that you don't have to be over 65 to be on Medicare.
Dan
