First off hello all! It's been a while since I posted on the mens board.

I've lost 202 pounds in less then 14 months, but I am falling of the track. For the pass month I've just haven't been the same. I would eat a lot more and feel so good that I lost so much weight that I say to myself "their is no way I would ever be big again". Well I have gain 8 pounds and now it's getting scary. You see the thing is I have no restriction like I use to. I can eat a whole lot, really fast, not feel full and even drink while I'm eating. I keep saying "I'm going to go back on a diet tomorrow" but never do it. Anybody else gain weight after a year post op. If so what did you do to bring yourself back on track? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I havent had surgery yet.. But, I have in the past lost 130 pounds. The only advice I can give you is LOOK IN THE MIRROR. The only one who can change whats happening is YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! The surgeon gave you a GREAT advantage over  the problem but, the rest has to come from you... 8 pounds is only 8 pounds. But, you know as well as I do with a poor diet and little exorcise 8 pounds can become 20 pounds very quickly. If I had to go back to that 130 pound loss again. I would DO ANYTHING to stop from regaining the weight. If I may suggest talk to your doctor and see what he or she suggests.  Maybe its time to get back into the dietitian or maybe Join Weigh****chers (it will teach you a lot) just to regain control... Youre a YOUNG MAN,,,, you have just regained control over the quality of your life... Do you want to win you battle over obesity?? or do you want to loose it?? Its really up to you. You will probably get A LOT of good advice from this post. BUT,, YOU'RE in the driver's seat you are now in control over your own destiny.

First of all, congratulations on your great success to date. You've obviously taken advantage of the WLS gift by changing your eating and exercise habits and are now reaping the rewards of being healthy. Remember that YOU were strong enough to do this and YOU are strong enough (and knowledgeable enough) to keep the weight off.

That being said, you know what got you healthy and what has to be done now that your WLS honeymoon is over. Eat right, eat less and exercise, huh? Evaluate for yourself which of these 3 things are "your problem" then attack it each and every day. For me (3-years post WLS), my problem is volume. I eat healthy with a few exceptions, I exercise daily but I eat way too much. Like I said before, you can still get fat from eating healthy food.

So, for me I try to avoid the triggers which cause me to graze.....watching TV, etc. and I try to eat protein first, eat slowly, chew, chew, chew, drink water, etc. Everything we learned while we were going through our massive weight loss.

If your problem is eating crap, it's all about not having the crappy food in the house, logging what you eat in fitday.com or the daily plate so you are aware of the massive calories in a donut for instance.

The good news is you're only only 8 pounds up so you can nip it in the bud. I set a "red line" weight for me of 220 pounds. Once I go over that weight, It's time to take measures to get back down by cutting back on what I eat and ramping up the exercise. It's still a yo-yo affect for me but losing 5-10 pounds is a whole lot easier than taking off 50 or 100 or 200.....

I'm sure others have better suggestions on this matter.  Best of luck.

I lost 240 lbs within the 1st 18 mos post-op but started regaining weight when I got sloppy with following the program.  It's so easy to allow ourselves just a little treat--we've been doing that our whole lives.  When I was gaining weight, my surgeon said I was just having the normal "bump" or 30% re-gain that was acceptable following RNY several years ago.  I've found on this site that there is no reason to believe that should ever happen.  Since my doc didn't think anything was wrong, he didn't check up on me.  I found out 4 years later that I had a staple line disruption and I eventually regained 90 lbs.  There's no way of knowing when that took place, so I'll never know if the disruption was present when I started gaining weight.  It was obviously a contributing factor to the eventual weight gain.  I got a revision RNY on 01-21-05 but only lost 40 lbs due to a complex set of cir****tances not involving WLS.  Through diet and exercise I lost another 20 lbs.  I feel I've been holding steady at 365 lbs for the past 18 mos but haven't been on a scale in all of that time.  A bit of Denial and I can't get on a normal doc's scale.  I told my wife I'm going to have to go back to using 2 scales, having her take the readings, and then combine them.

I post my tale of woe as a warning to my brothers on the Men's Forum.  It's hard to blow the effects of the WLS, but not following the proper food plan, snacking, drinking with meals, and lack of exercise will result in weight gain.  Don't do as I've been doing.  Follow the example of the very successful men on here like Bone, Dx E, and Bob L.  I know there are others, but I can't easily recall their usernames.  I know some of their actual names but I won't mention that.

How do you get yourself back on track?  I just don't know.  I try every day and seem to fail every day and that has an accumulative depressing effect.  Since I already suffer from manic-depression, I usually give in to the food.  I continually vow that I'll get off of the junk but it hasn't worked for over 30 years except for about the first few mos following my WLS.
