Bought an Elliptical

Bought a Reebok Elliptical display model, clearance-priced from Sam's yesterday. Less than three bills which was more than half-off regular price.  Solid unit for our home gym.

Seems like a great cardio, low-impact (easy on the joints) workout and is very popular in the gym for both men and women alike. I've not used one before yesterday but I was really huffing and puffing after 10 minutes or so. The cardio workout on an Elliptical seems to be the next step up from a treadmill and should be great for the winter exercise for my family.

Ever used an Elliptical? Thoughts or comments?

I am so intimidated by the hardbodies on the elipticals at the gym. I know it is not a rational thought, since I am doing this for me and nobody else. But I stay off the eliptical - focus on bike, treadmill and weights. I guess that will be a personal goal for me - work up to the eliptical - both in stamina and courage.

Congrats on the purchase Boner!  I can't get the hang of those darn things - and it always makes my back hurt. I know it's not supposed to, but it does. Anyways, should be a great addition to your home exercise plan!

I have been afraid of the impact on my joints due to excess weight to try the treadmill, so I have been using the elliptical at the gym since shortly after my surgery.  I really find it a good exercise, not joint pain, occasional sore muscle.  I try to go 45 to 60 minutes on it at least twice a week and about 25 minutes on my weight training days.  I hope you like it.

My wife always wanted one, so last Christmas I got her a particularly nice, health club quality one (Sole E55). It's a great piece of equipment. She uses it a lot. I can't get the hang of it. It hurts my knees and wears me out in no time. I can ride our recumbent bike for 60 minutes and get just as winded in 10 minutes on the elliptical.
