I apologize for invading the men's forum. Mea culpa. I was neither looking for validation nor being a know it all-- I was wondering if there was some men-specific advice I could give the man I love so that he can optimize his success...and hoped to hear stories from a couple men in the same boat who eventually did well anyway. *That* would have been validating, I suppose!

What I received was great, but mostly stuff we'd already tried, or been advised against by our nutritionist, so it's confusing. What you're reading isn't arrogance, it's confusion.

I also received this in my email:

snicklefritz's reply was:

Link didn't work, though--not sure why.  I get your point, though. I'm not a regular poster at R&R and not much of a ****disturber, so that language puzzles me.

Again, sorry. I'm just a woman seeking advice. I try to avoid the place, but when I need to speak to men about a specifically men's issue, I'm left with few options.

I apologize for the use of my language and the C word and to you for using it.. I was very upset and angered by this post. I thought you were playing with us and you were making fun of us and none of here deserved that. We are a strict minority here and I take that very very seriously.

Obviously I have a temper

Understood. You don't know me, and you're defensive of your space here. Got that.

Thing is, when I have a question that's about men specifically, posting on the RNY and Main forums isn't always helpful-- so few men show up there. So I took a stupid risk. I've gotten so many emails and questions from the men here, I thought I could fire off one of my own. I was wrong to assume quid pro quo worked that way.

BTW-- if my BF was imaginary I'd make him wealthy-- and if he was inflatable, I'd just open the valve and let the air out rather than trying to help him through the post-surgical morass. It'd be a hell of a lot easier.   ;)

Let's put this behind usand start fresh. Once again I apologize. Now most nutrionists do not understand men's issues. Normally we lose faster than women. For proof of of that, look to the number of women saying my BF< DH lost 97 lbs last week and I lost 3 or even that commercial.  This is my opinion and not fact. We will process protein faster than a lot of people.

One other thing he might try is varying his food intake For example one day more protein, another day more water etc. My body goes into a kind of starvation mode when it gets the same amount of food everday and by varying amount of calories/carbs/protein it can jumpstart.

All of these things are suggestions to just try. Also drinking a lot more water will flush fat cells.

I try to drink 120 oz of water a day.

Just some ramblings

I'd do a lot more than make him wealthy.  HA.

Hi Jupiter  (dang, didn't you downgrade to "Pluto" yet?    )

Actually, that may not sound like much of a loss for a man, but keep in mind that it looks like he only had about 100 or so lbs. to lose as of the date of surgery, and the window of loss is about 1 year or so (IIRC) for RNY (which is what I presume he had)  ... So relatively speaking (no pun intended) that would be about right for him ..  He is half way to goal and about half way through his weight loss honeymoon period ..   If he stays on track he should get to goal about the time his window is closing ..  Otherwise, any faster loss than that and they'd end up calling him "black hole" ..

Our best wishes to him ..

His eating seems to be good.  It just appears that his major problem is exercise.  He needs to get moving, especially with a sedentary job.  He really needs to get in at least and hour or hour and a half of exercise = cardio plus weight training.  Also, on a simpler note, you talk about his energy level being low or non-existant, has he had a follow up sleep study since gastric bypass surgery?  You mentioned him using CPAP - he may need to have some readjustments done to his pressure settings - that may very well explain why he still feels run down and tired - give that a look - the findings may surprise you.  Many RNY pt. think they can stop using CPAP after surgery and that is the biggest myth out there.  Skinny people sometimes need CPAP, even RNY pts. who have lost 200 pounds still need CPAP.  His supplementation seems good and like I said earlier, his dietary intake seems good - people keep talking about increasing protein uptake, but on appearance he seems to be getting a good amount already- people are way too overboard on the protein intake ( normal person = 60g-80g daily and very active person = 80g-100g daily ).  Hell, if you listen to some of these people on the web site, you can and will OverDose yourself on protein.  Your body can only take and use so much protein and then the kidneys start taking heavy toll and can be damaged - kidney stones, etc.  Carbs are not the killer that everyone seems to think they are either - RNY patients have malabsorption issues so we don't have the same kind of issues like before preop.  Yes, we can all over do the carb thing, but you would literally have to gorge yourself day in and day out on that crap.

These are just my thoughts on the matter, but by all means, follow your doctors advice first and foremost.
