Clapton's surgery
Just to add another "hang tough" message. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and have to say that I had built it up in my head to be way worse than it turned out to be. Stayed in the hospital from Wednesday till Saturday. My incision drained for another three days but wasn't a problem. My blood pressure went low as a result of the surgery but that's one of the outcomes we were looking for. I went from fighting high blood pressure with 3 meds twice a day to zero meds and I'm at 130/75. Yea. My diabetes meds have been cut in half. I'm still a whipped pup aas far as stamina goes but the stationary bike is getting less and less a problem. Back to the gym tomorrow for a light, "total" workout.
Tell Clapton that he'll be sore but every day gets better.
Good luck,
Jim

I am glad to hear that Clapton is doing well, please let him know I am thinking of him.
I had my surgery at 3pm on Thursday and was home before noon on Sat. I had pain only with getting out of the bed chair and it lasted for less than one minute so I did not take that much pain mendication.
I wouln't be concerned about the incision oozing. Ask the surgeon since so you can put your concerns to rest. As a general rule, if you have a question concern ask the surgeon, nutritionist or whoever seems most appropriate.
If you have a blood pressure cuff at home, check his blood pressure in the morning and evening. I was off all blood pressure meds about a week after surgery.
A word of warning you your Mrs. Clapton, he will be up chasing you around the house before you know it!

Thanks for reporting in for "Mr. Slowhand" .. Ms. C.
Wow, sounds like he had a rough time, but came out fine .. My surgeon always removes the gallbladder while in there, due to the fact that the stats are just too high on gallstone attacks following WLS and major, rapid weight loss .. I think it was very smart in his case to go ahead and get it out now, if he had scarring that was not a good sign and meant he likely would have a lot of trouble with it (or even more so) after his WLS. Was his surgery open or lap, btw?
My surgery was lap and I was out in 48 hours, back at the hotel, and then good to go after about 2 weeks .. Not hardly any oozing at all from the lap ports, btw .. and the stitches were out after 2 weeks or less .. My blood pressure was always very high before surgery, and it went even higher the day after surgery (they were thinking at one point of putting me into ICU) .. but then it went down to normal level for a few days (thanks to IV sedatives) before going back up again.
Not sure why his would go down so low, if they didn't change his meds .. Are they really pushing IV fluids into him? They should be, if not .. This is important, as well as him getting up and walking around as soon and as much as possible in the hospital .. Be sure they are also giving him abdominal heprin injections daily to fend off dangerous blood clot formation ..
