I will be having the VSG soon.  Has anyone that lost a lot have the dreaded loose skin?  What is the best remedy?   I feel lifting weights to fill in the skin with new muscles would work the best, or am i dreaming?

You may not be dreaming. I have heard several people say that large upper body muscles and glute muscles pull the skin tight. You'll probably have some loose skin but if you keep the upper body large, you'll probably have less.

Like others have said, it depends on how much weight you lose, how "stretched out" you are in certain regions and also how pliable your skin is. The younger folks will often find the skin snap back while the skin for us codgers will not in most cases. I lost nearly 300 pounds and had to have plastic surgery to remove it from the pannus (pube area) and abs.

Building up muscles underneath the skin is certainly helpful although there are no muscles behind the pannus which makes PS almost necessary in that region to make it look normal again.

There's only so much muscles will do.   Major factors that will influence your skin snapping back would be age and genetics.

I've lost 260 and although I do have some loose skin around my belly that's really the only place on my body that my skin didn't snap back.   I did (and do) maintain a pretty rigerous exercise routine whi*****ludes weights but now it's mostly swim / bike / run.  For the first year post-op I hit the weights much harder than I do now and that probably helped but honestly there's only so much that can do.

I wish you the best on your journey.

I look like Jabba the Hutt myself. If I didn't weigh so much these flippin Batwings (sorry Councillor) could get me airborne. No amount of exercise is going to help this. Duct tape maybe.

But you know what. I don't care because I am healthier now. I am back on track n following a program

Geez,  I saw my abdomen the other day when toweling off after the shower, and       It looks like a giant tumor of chicken skin, or something ..  So gross ..    But then that's 210 lbs. off a 47 y.o. M   We have a sweet young thang on the DS forum that supposedly has lost just as much and you don't even see any loose skin on her bare torso ..      On the other hand, I know a college student (former football jock M) who lost less than that with DS and he has horrible loose skin too ..  So I guess it's a YMMV thing ..     (and no, usually the weights thing in and of itself doesn't help that much w/o PS - I don't call me Batwingsman for nothin'!   )

But, I wouldn't worry about anyone messin' with ya if ya do - with that GUN in hand, at least!

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "
