Back surgery went well last night
tell your family to save their money..the procedure (or procedures...because there are 2 laser treatments currently available) are highly controversial. They apparently can do more harm then good, and only work in about 50 percent of the people that get them. It sucks, because the "benefit" of the lasar treatments is that the down time is much less...and the pain is supposedly much less, and it can be done with a local instead of needing general anesthsia.

Yeah well....hope it works out for you. I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back and 1 in my neck..i just had a spinal fusion on another one in my neck in may.....
I cannot exercise like everyone else, but I've managed to exercise regularly. I hope to someday do a marathon or a triatholon....my goal....BUT should it not happen I'll be happy to be fit and muscular. I modify my exercise regime to reduce the strain on my lower back...which usually means I have to limit the amount of weight I lift, even though I physically could lift more....I cannot jog or do any type of bouncing exercise, but exercise bikes, walking on a tread mill, or elipse machine are fine.....same with spin classes. Swimming is good, if you cannot use your legs, you can drag yourself through the water with your arms (put a boggie board under your chest). water aerobics classes are also very good, because they are non weight baring....ok i have ot be honest, I haven't take any since I tried to take one at 500 lbs and almost lost my bathing suit, plus most of them are filled with old people...lol. Tai chi, gentle yoga might also be a good route.
PM me if you want to talk about it more...it sucks to be young and hurting.....trust me i know.

Glad to hear the back surgery went well Lance. Spinal surgery can be a real ***** I have stenosis in my lower L4-L5. They wanted to cut me and I said hell no. Fortunately the weight loss has helped. Still some pain occasionally but its more of an aggravation than anything these days. You'll be good as new pretty soon and hitting the gym like a mad man. Have a good one.

Well bully, this is sort of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow so to speak. First I had the gastric bypass, then went through a month of PT, then had 2 epidural steroid injections, and finally about 10 months of severe pain and no help later I had the disc decompression. So if I have to do more PT I definitely WILL do more, but right now we're waiting to see what my pain level will be set at.
HOLLY MOTHER!!!!!!!!!! (Oh,, am I aloud to say that?? Oops) Back issues S_ _ _ A_ _. I know many people who have gone through this type of surgery.. MOST of them are VERY happy with the results.. Water Therapy might be helpful if you having done that before. Less stress on the spine.
I hope you're feeling better soon.
