?? regarding insurance coverage for Gynecomastia Correction (man boobs)

Hey guys, I had a consult yesterday with Dr. Hurwitz at the OH event in Philly. I liked him a lot and he gave a great presentation. One of the things we talked about was getting rid of my man boobs. I like his technique very much.  It won't leave any scars accross my chest and for the most part, they will be hidden in the arm pit area. The price is $10,500, which is the most expensive of all the procedures we talked about. Has anyone been successful in getting Gynecomastia correction covered by insurance? It seems possible because it isn't always or sometimes entirely caused by obesity. From what I've read, it's usually a combination of obesity and glandular or hormone issues. Thanks for any help you can provide. JOE

I've not heard of ins. ever covering it, being a cosmetic procedure.     (boy, I'd have been on their azz a LONG time ago, if that were possible ..     )

You might be able to get it covered, and this is a long shot, if you are diabetic and you can show that the loose skin in that area is putting you at risk of skin infections, staph, etc.    Have you had a history of redness and rashes under them?  I used to have that problem w. the ole "manaloupes" in the hot sweaty summers ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

Had all that and still got rejected. Good luck to you though. Even though you like this guy check around, that seems high priced

My gynecomastia correction was covered by insurance....I think it's luck of the draw...for the most part, no it's not covered.

FYI, the under the arm pit incision is great, because it leaves no scar on the chest, BUT there is a trade off, less scar, perhaps more excess skin.My surgeon suggested just doing an under the arm pit incision, but I opted for the scar across my chest because I wanted the least amount of skin possible. I had moobies all my life, and with scars all over my body anyway from surgery, I highly doubt i'm going to be running around the beach topless anytime in the near future.
