Like aways I am a magnet for weird requests. Tonight was no exception. Today at my WW meeting I got to chatting with one of the group members who just so happens to be an artist.. After the meeting he invited a bunch of us over to the gallery he and his wife own for a little social. I went of course. The man is an INCREDIBLE ARTIST. He paints portraits and they're remarkable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonight he showed a bunch of us a collection that he's been working on called "REAL LIFE"... Is a collection of average everyday people off the street. So old some young, some fat some thin, some white some black Hispanic or Asian. THE ARE SO GREAT!!
(motive behind the party) He asked a few of us to pose for him.. I was one of them.. The catch is that the portraits are NUDES............... First of all I cant believe anyone would want to immortalize this body....secondly I dont know if I am comfortable being exhibited (and thats the point of the paintings) However there is this thought thats running through my mind that this might be a good way (I admit CRAZY WAY) to document the beginning of my journey.
I just wondered what would you all do????

Well B.Y.

Having lived with a portirot artists for 17 years, Something I hear all the time..."It is easy to draw a beautiful pic of a beautiful subject, it is much more difficult to draw a beautiful pic of an unattractive subject"

NOw all people can be portraied as beautiful, it does take a special artist to capture that...this may be the only time you ever have to have a artist draw you...

You souns like you trust him, that he is not going to do a pic with you and a subway sandwich and a 2 liter pepsi...I say go for it...

Have a blast. It is a once in a life time.

Besides no one will recognize you since all that weight is coming off shortly.

Hmm sounds like a perv and possibly a swinger ..   Are you sure he really painted those pics himself and didn't just buy them off somebody?    &:-D)

But seriously, that just gave me a flashback to a sour experience I had back in my law school daze ..

A classmate bud of mine (a trombone player no less with the St. Louis Symphony) and I were eating lunch at a hip local deli there in K.C.  when we noticed these two gals at a table nears ours kept glancing up at us while they were apparently doodling at their table ..  I thought it odd, as it wasn't like an "interested" look but rather the detached look of an artist ..

When we went to leave, my bud glanced over the shoulder of one of them and noticed they had been working on sketches of us at our table ..  (we looked a bit like Laurel & Hardy, since my bud was Mr. Slim & Trim) ..  Apparently it was for an art class project or some such, we guessed ..  I was shocked to see that the gal had penciled my profile in as almost a shapleless blob (I was only 300 lbs. then, too) .. It seemed to me at the time, b/c she was a Barbie Doll herself, that must be how all gals see big guys like me ..  no wonder we are so alone.

I got upset ..  I think I remarked something to the artist along the lines of, "young lady, if you want to be a successful artist, you need to learn the art of flattery, first and foremost ..  If we want the ugly truth, we'll hire a photographer .. !", and started to huff out of the place ..  My bud was so embarrassed he tried to compliment her on the work, and offered her some money to buy the sketch, which they agreed on ..  (I hope he went home and trashed it) ..  He did later remark to me in the car, "it's really NOT an accurate likeness .. you have a much more distinctive profile than that .. "  (phew!  - I think)

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

My concern is more of what I can live with.. How brave am I???? Their NICE people two old hippies that went to Woodstock,, the concert not the town. So trust of them is not an issue... I dont like looking at this body in the mirror, I havent decided how I would feel about putting it on display for others to see . It could be a great self esteem buster. Could be something when I am 60 I can say I did. But, it could also be something I am SO unconformable and regretful about.... Oh,, I dont know what to do. The two ladies in our group he asked are both doing it. To see this collection of paintings though they are SO incredible.. "REAL LIFE" is a perfect name for it. He's got paintings of a 90 year old woman, a Gulf War vet with his Leg amputated, pictures a pregnant women.... The paintings are done in a way that is very tasteful. I just have to do some sole searching.

What the heck.  I say go for it.  Give you something to remember back on -- you only live once.   I would agree to it, but he would have to agree to keep his eyes closed the whole time!!

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Okay so I called the guy and told him no.. Because I wasnt comfortable with someone painting my NUDE portrait. (Im too chicken) But, told me he would be willing to paint me clothed. (Well Kind'a) So all the important parts will be covered. So that, is acceptable so I am doing it.
I wish I could post a copy once its done.. I will have to find a way.
