Ran 13 miles
I posted this on the exercise and fitness forum. Thougt I would cross post it here. Never under estimate what might be possible. I never would have thunk it.
Hi everyone, went for my long run Sat. and ended up doing 13 miles. Took 2:09:50,comes out to a 9:59 pace, which I am very happy with.
I was doing really well up to just a little over mile 11, I started to cramp up. Went on for about 1/2 a mile, but I stopped running and walked a little and then stopped streached for a few minutes. Up to that point I was running really well, I had been staying at about a 9:30 pace or a little faster. Started back runnng, well jogging and finished really slow, was taking really short choppy strides.
It wasn't that hot but my clothes was were covered in salt. I did use a couple of gels during my run, but I didn't take in any fluids. I don't know if it is where I sweated out so much salt or dehydration. Probably more dehydration than any thing.
I came home and got on line and signed up for a `1/2 marathon on Nov. 2. With that run, I know I can make it and with some better planning I think I can do it under 2 hours. Although I had a little trouble at the end I was having a really good run up till that point. Came home and did the ice bath and have been putting ice packs on my knees and I feel pretty good. Today was a day of rest tomorrow will be an easy run or maybe stationary bike.
Now that I have been able to run 13 miles, I am really thinking of trying to build up to a full marathon. My birthday is Jan 25 and I wondering if I can be in good enough shape to complete one by then? If I complete or I should say when I complete the 1/2, a full is my next goal.
MAN I LOVE THIS ****!!!!!! I never dreamed this would be possible. Not at 50 any way.
