2 weeks out and about to jump outta my skin
Well I am not very good at hiding my enthusiasm. My wife is about to go nuts with all my chatter. But I am so DAMNED excited to go down this path!
I am more excited after meeting with a lot of the people that will be there during and after the surgery. Scottsdale Bariatric is a "Bariatric Center of Excellence" and they drive that point home. They have 2 nutrionists, 2 pyschs, 2 excercise techs, 2 surgeons, and 3 NPs on staff. All the nurses in the Bariatric Ward of the hospital are specialists in bariatric surgery. During this past week I had an all day class where they explained everything that will be happening pre op, druing the op, post op in the hospital, and the first few weeks post op at home. They put the fear of God in us about taking our vitamins and supplements and pretty much about obeying all the damn rules that they have in place. I could go on and on about the program but they have it down to a science and an art. It has increased my confidence in the team I choose for my surgery and care. One week post op I return for another class that will discuss what I can eat among other things and we will have our "first meal" post op.
Tomorrow I meet with the surgeon for the first time. Ooo did I mention that they are big on relaxation as part of the healing process? With that said I get a spa treatment (massage) the day after surgery .... oooo yeah! I am stoked !

I'd be careful man...sounds like a cult to me!! Good thing your doing your research. These WLS operations are getting perfected. They are knowing more and more about what works and what does not. I think back to when I dad was about the 20th person in the country to have heart bypass surgery at Stanford. They're doing what? And taking a vain from where? It all sounded nuts at the time...but now we think nothing of heart bypass. The same is coming true of gastric bypass. Yes there are risk and there could be complications. But looking at the alternative can be just as bad. We'll be here for the process and ask away at the questions. Later, Brian
Dan, that sounds excellant because is just like the hospital where I had my surgery -- Foundation Bariatric Hospital. Same staff as you mentioned. The place only has about 14 rooms, so the nurses were able to take extra attention to me, and since bariatric surgery is all they do, they knew exactly what was going on. I did great and they made it for a fantastic hospital stay. How many times can a person say that? Good luck, Michael
