Sick as a dog

I came home from work on Tuesday with fever and body aches. My throat is sore so I just figured I had picked up a bug someplace. Yesterday my fever spiked to 103 and my throat got very sore. I called my primary care physician and set up an appt. Problem is, he's swamped and couldn't get me in until later in the week. I decided to try the local walk in clinic. They tested me for strep and flu both of which came back negative. On the way back home my wife asked me if there was any chance this had anything to do with my surgery which was a month ago. I honestly handn't even considered it since I'm having no stomach pain and the sore throat. I told her there was no way it was connected....

Then last night I had a very scary dream and I started second guessing myself. My question, is it time to call Dr. Ganta or is this just a bug I picked up?

As a side note, the Dr. at the clinic put me on a Z-Pak. I know antibiotics can be pretty harsh. Are there any restrictions on which antibiotics WLS patients can take?

Depending on your sensitivity to the z-pack you may have some diarrhea and nausea such where you will have to make sure you stay hydrated. Otherwise I'm not sure if there are any restrictions just b/c you had WLS. Hope you get to feeling better!

I have taken Z-packs since my surgery. Didn't have any problems with it. The Oral Surgeon put me on an antibiotic (can't remember the name) and tht stuff tore my azz up! I had nausea and the runs, and felt awful. My PCP took me off of it and gave me another antiobitic. No problem with it either.

You probably have picked up a bug - several folks around here have gotten it.  Keep an eye on it and if in doubt, get to the Doc.

I think for the first six months anything that could be slightly connected to WLS shouldn't be dismissed and your WLS Team should be contacted. Hope its nothing but don't forget it is major surgery.
