WHAT DID YOU PAY FOR PSYCH.. REVIEW????
Last week I had my first appointment with the Psychologist for my Psych review. Or first visit was only about 20 min long and most of the was to fill out paperwork. (I dont understand it) At the end of that visit the Psych,, (a very STRANGE MAN) advised me that once he verified insurance that he would cb and schedule the next appointment bla bla bla bla.. So today I got tired of waiting for the man to cb so I called him.. He called back and scheduled and advised me that my CO pay for his services was $$$$$$$150.00.. According to my insr co when I called 3 weeks ago they covered 100% of anything Psychiatric (I work for FEDEX they dont want anyone going postal) Do you think the Psych,,,, might be trying to take advantage of me?? With a 100% coverage,, I didnt think there would be a co-pay at all let alone 150.00 co pay.. What did you all pay for that??? Just wondering.. ANYONE ELSE WITH CIGNA OUT THERE??

 hmmm  a "very STRANGE man"???

Was he maybe wanting to "yank your 'bull'"?

But seriously ..   as to the fees  the services of a psychiatrist (who is a medical doctor, btw) vs. that of a psychologist (who is not a medical doctor, and are much more common) are usually much more $$$$ ..       However, even though you used a psychiatrist, b/c he is a medical doctor, if you have 100% coverage w. no deductible I wouldn't see that as a co-pay ..  Something is amiss ..

I have wondered if it would be acceptable to ins. cos. to use  a psychologist for those screenings ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

There seams to be a bit of a blurred line there. If I had been diagnosed with a Psychological issue then. 100%. But, since this is just a part of a MEDICAL procedure approval, then is counts as a medical specialty and I have to pay that Co Pay.. If they find that I have a psychological disorder that needs treated as mental health issue then it would go back to be in 100% coverage.. But, I dont want them to find that.. That would mean loose surgery.  So far Cigna has been very fair with me. I have had little reason to question what they have made me do or how they have charged me.

If the psychologist or psychiatrist, you didn't mention which he was, is "in network" with Cigna, he has to accept payment from them and can not take more than your regular copay with Cigna Behaviorial Health.  If he is in network, he does not need to call Cigna because no prior authorizations are required.  He can just go on line and verify your insurance without them knowing anything.  The fee of $150 per hour is about normal, but you should not have to pay the full fee if he is in network.  Out of network you may need to pay and then get reimbursed by your insurance.

If you run into problems with this get back to me.  I'm a Cigna Behavioral Health provider and prettty familiar with the ropes.
