What An Inspriring Story - "Coach Luke" (Down's Syndrome)
One of our local T.V. stations ran a little human-interest article at the end of their nightly news/sportscast tonight about an assistant coach of one of the local high school football teams.
"Coach Luke" was born with a severe case of Down's Syndrome, which kept him from playing football himself in school. However, he didn't let it get in the way of him coaching the sport, and seeing him in action at games tonight in the news article really brought a tear to one's eye -- I have never seen a coach with such heart, spiriti, enthusiasm, and love for what he does. Although the DS makes it difficult for him to communicate with his players sometimes (it was kinda humorous when they pointed out that, although Coach wears a headset on the sidelines, it is NOT hooked up to the system), they nevertheless seem to understand what he wants out of them somehow, and you can tell they really appreciate his hard work.
What a great story! ^5

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

Great story...thanks for posting it as I'm always interested in Downs Syndrome kids since my oldest daughter, Betsy, is Downs.
Here's a link to another great Downs story about Cody, whose Dad happens to play lead guitar in my cousin's band. Cody was recently named homecoming king and is "the most popular kid in high school." I had the privilege to meet Cody this summer at our "Real McCoys, no Hatfields" family reunion. He is such a cool young man!
Our younger generation has sure come a long way becoming more tolerant and accepting of differences in people. Now us old dogs just need to learn these new tricks.
