4th day

Today, I completed the 4th day without getting sick.  Nine times out of 10, I would eat a little and then my chest would start hurting, my mouth would salivate alot and would get sicker and sicker.  I would throw up, but never the food -- always a clear mugus.  Guess it was the foamies.   At my 6 week check up, Dr. Walton said if it got any worse to call him, because I could have a stricture.  I kept getting sick, but put off calling him.  (I know).  I could only eat like canned chicken meat with SF bar-b-q sauce all over it, or a slice of velveeta melted on it, or grind up some baked chicken in the food processor, or have some of the soft foods.  But, even then, I would sometimes get sick -- I just never knew.   This weekend my wife cooked some chicken breasts, and actually had a few bites and didn't get sick.  Have eaten on these for several days and so far, so good.  I am so happy to have adult food.  Michael

As a joke, when I was in the pureed food stage out of surgery my mom bought me a bunch of gerber baby food! I was like ummm you can just take that right on back to where you found it haha. I did try one of the things and it was disgusting! Poor babies!

I went to the police academy with a guy who ate a jar of baby food as part of his lunch every day.
Usually some mashed fruit stuff and a sandwhich was his daily meal.

Ugh.

Glad it's gotten better for ya Michael.     It should get better the further out you get from your surgery. I still sometimes have trouble with eating too fast or taking too big a bite. Especially if I am distracted with conversation, TV, etc.  Makes sense though - for 53 years before WLS I didn't have to eat slow or watch the size of the bites.

Hey Mike
Glad to hear you are having some good things happen for a change.  I had a lot of trouble with chicken in the beginning.  After a year, I still have some trouble with eggs sometimes.  Find what works and stay positive.  If you start to worry about getting enough protein, look for TVP and add that to a few things.  It works very well and seems to sit pretty good in the old pouch.

Glad to hear things are improving for you! You are probably finishing up on your healing, so pouch is still a little sensitive. Plus if you are like me...you still are eating too fast and not chewing enough. And are you drinking with your meals? All that will give you the foamies. At first I could eat chicken, but now I'm having trouble tolerating it.....so you never know. Just gotta experiment...everyone is different. Good luck on havin more successful eating days!!!            John

Hope you feel better, Michael.  Make sure if it persists to call the doctor.
