Here I am...not having surgery today
Well, here I am not having surgery. I should be in the OR at this very moment. My primary care Physician sent me to some quack because he was not affiliated with the hospital I am going to. Since I am obese, they are now sending me to have a stress test, this guy doesn't know me from Adam and now I need a cardiac consult, because once one person raises a flag regarding the heart. So my surgery was rescheduled for Dec. 8th. I was so upset for the past two days (this happened on Monday and Tuesday, my surgery was post poned yesterday at 5:00PM). Do you know the mental anguish this caused, I feel like I've already had my stress test. Gee, he is obese, lets hold him back from his WLS and put more stress on him, maybe he'll need that cardiologist after all. $25.00 copay please.

I think I understand how you feel, but I don't think any surgeon would do major work on you without a cardiac work-up. It is ultimely for your safety, i hope everything comes together soon for you. Stay positive and good luck.

The last minute stuff is so unfair and so hard. I had to have a full EKG done prior to the surgery, but I knew it wasa coming before hand. They didn't do a stress test though. That seems a bit much especially if you have no history of heart problems.
Good Luck Robert, I'm sorry they delayed this on you.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Bob,
Getting put off for a few weeks is nothing uncommon. I was put off for two weeks because of learning I had sleep apnea. Dr. wanted me on CPAP machine for two weeks prior to surgery. Not going to name any names but I am aware of one member of the Locker Room who was on the gurney with an IV in his arm on his scheduled surgery day when he got scrubbed for two weeks! Know it is a regal pain in the ass but the new date will be here soon and you'll be joining us on the Loser's Bench!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
Sorry this happened to you Phil, but at least you doctor is looking out for what is in your best interest. Don didn't say it, but I am the one he was talking about. On April 15, 2008, I was butt nekked, prepped, IV's in place and on the table when the Doctors told me they were cancelling my surgery and postponing it until April 28, 2008. At first I thought they were joking with me, but I soon found it was no joke. Someone had not run some cardio tests the Doctor needed and he refused to proceed without them, especially with my having had the heart attacks in 2002. He refused to do the surgery until the tests were done and he had the results in hand. It was upsetting at the time to say the least, and I was PO'ed, irritated, and mad. But then I realized that he was actually looking out for MY best interest and well being - which is EXACTLY what I wanted him to do. Besides, the extra 2 weeks of the liquid diet and extra few pounds of weight loss actually helped me and made the surgery go better for the Doc and for me.
Like they say - everything happens for a reason! Keep a positive attitude! Hang in there brother! You'll do even better now!!

Thanks all, I'm back from my cardiac consult and am on blood pressure meds for the first time in my life. Stress Test next week and still frustrated. Will be scheduled for Dec. 8th surgery. Right in the middle of my busy season at work, I now have two weeks of planning and scheduling at work that will take a team from NASA to their knees. It's amazing how one doctor who has never seen you before can size you up for as a fat person who probably doesn't do much but sit behind a desk all day and plops down on his recliner when he gets home, yeah right. I think the stigma bothers me more than anything.
Thank you all for your support. I just want things to get started.
