Worked out 1 time in November and lost more weight than before!

Okay, this has really got me confused... Last month my wife gave birth to our 3rd child and I took the month off of work. Well, with spending the first week in the hospital with her and then spending the rest of the time juggling our other kids around and helping her and the new baby at home I just did not get a chance to hit the gym - AT ALL!

I got one day at the gym last Monday but that was it for the entire month! Of course I wasn't necessarily sitting around eating bon-bons all day either but I really felt like I had dropped the ball on exercising. I also did a lot of eating out during this time because my wife has been the one that has cooked and prepared my meals so with her being out of commission I didn't have much choice.

Since the third month post-op, I have consistently lost about 4 pounds per month. Last month, with the no workouts and the eating the less-than-ideal meals, I dropped 11 pounds!

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying every pound off but it just really gets me. Should I maybe adjust my workout routine and tone it down for a few months? Anything like this happen to you guys?

As an aside, I'm currently down to 207 and my pre-op personal goal was 205. I can't believe I'm one good dump from hitting that! My CNP gave me a weight of 188 which would be her ideal weight for me and my body type. One year ago, heck 6 months ago I would have thought she was crazy but today I'm thinking that might be reachable.

Just remember your toning and adding muscle when you exercise. Muscle is more dense than fat so that may account for the lighter loss. But I bet the inches are flying off.

Movement of any type will do it.  It will not tone the muscles, but it will cause the weightloss.  I notice I lost more weight doing projects around the house that by exercising.  When I would exercise my body would hold tight the weight.  Doing project...it would release the weight big time.

Sometimes adding food lets your metabolism reset from starvation mode. Then getting back on schedule your body doesn't try to hold onto fat as desperately.

You know, this makes a lot of sense. I had been doing a lot of movement between housework, chasing after the kids and what not. I also had been getting less sleep with the newborn so I know being awake burns a lot of calories too.

Thanks!

When you work out and use resistance, you build and increase muscle mass. Muscle is denser and more compact than fat (1 lb of muscle is appx. 1/2 the size of 1 lb. of fat). So you are changing your body composition for the better, but may see less actual weight loss, but should still see a loss of inches. Also, adding muscle mass burns more calories and fat, even when resting.  No matter how you cut it - EXERCISE IS GOOD (both anerobic and aerobic). In fact, it is essential.

Thanks guys, everything makes a lot of sense to me now. It just gets me that you work your butt off and you see a pound here or there and then you kick back for a month and you drop more than the past 3 months combined!

Thanks for this post because I'm on the same boat you are.  Whenever I rest my body, I lose more weight....I'm a gym rat!
