And now ..   the reasons why you should chose DS for your WLS:

   1.

   (j/k!)

Best of luck on your surgery, and welcome to un-lurkdom!

(btw, which city are you from and what is your name - I presume "Bill"?)

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

Its a smart thing to look at the negative as well as the positives of having these surgeries done. After all its surgery and to take it lightly wouldnt be smart. I have done that too. The one thing you will find in MOST cases of people who have had surgeries with a successful out come and who are HAPPY with the results is that they did their homework prior to the surgery. They prepared themselves mentally and physically for the change before it happened. They also went into it with  realistic expectations and the correct understanding that this was not the magic bullet. Before and after surgery they have worked!!!!!!!!!!!! hard for the results they have gotten. They exorcise and eat properly and they take good care of themselves and LISTEN to their doctor.
The ones that you talk to that have not been successful or happy with the end result tend to people who did lease research, were not as prepared for life after surgery and whos expectations were just too high.  Often if you watch these people you notice that they dont exorcise they have a very poor diet their end goal after having surgery was to eat anything they want. We eventually you can and if you do you gain wait and end up back where you started and in some cases have new health problems.

So, here I am, 10 days out from surgery, down 18 lbs, and excited about the future.  So far, there have been very few issues - the only one of consequence was my g-tube (drainage from my old stomach) had been overinflated (where saline-filled ballons hold the tube in my stomach).  That made it nearly impossible to eat or drink anything for a couple of days.

So, I have a little question...are stalls in weight loss common in the period right after surgery...for a while there, I was dropping something like 2lbs a day (yes, I can't help but give in and weight myself every damn day)...then it was 1lb a day, and now, for the last two days, it's been less than a pound.  I have this irrational concern that somehow I'm done losing weight...anyone else been through this with a (hopefully) happy ending.

One of the nice things about the Internet is the relative safety of asking others to reassure you when you have some unfounded fears...I know that this is no big deal, but I just wonder if others experienced this or felt this way.

Thanks in advance,

Bill
