This the first time I posted on this forum, but I have been reading it for a while now and have been impressed with all the good info and all the good wishes given to others. Tue. the ninth I went for my operation at Lancaster General, Pa. went in at 6:00 am went though all the preparations up till they gave me the shot to take care of nasia, when I started to get sick in the stomach, my blood pressure droped to 60 over 30 and I all butt passed out. I spent the rest of the day trying to get straghtend out, because I have a pace maker, two stents and a leaky valve, they did a ecograme and now I have to get another stress test. Now I am wondering if I should even think about having a RNY at 59 years young and 340 pounds.

Man, sorry to hear about the day from pre-op hell you expereinced.  It sounds pretty discouraging. I can't really speak to your medical condition and everything, but it seems like you decided RNY was what you needed to get your life back.  Those same reasons are still there to have it.  I would encourage you to discuss your feelings and thoughts with the bariatric tream.    You may have some valid concerns.  HOpefully, you have a supportive team that will have your best interest at heart.  Hope things turn to the better soon.

Nothing but thoughts and good wishes coming your way. If your dr thinks its good I think you should go for it.

I'm 55 and have a pacemaker and a stent form 5 heart attacks in 2002. I had RNY on April 28, 2008, and have lost a total of 150+ lbs.  I am no longer pre-diabetic, no longer have sleep apnea, no more edema, no more congestive heart failure, and am off all meds except for my cholesterol medication (I was taking 11 pills a day before the surgery).
I can mow exercise, play with my grandkids, take extended trips on my motorcycle, mow the lawn, work around the house and yard, and just about anything else I want to do. My life and health has improved dramatically since my surgery. I'd do it again tomorrow!

I think BamaBob summed it all up. Just so long as your surgery team still feels your body can do this. Scary stuff coming down the road if you do not. So much more if you and move your body through this safely. IMHO have a good long talk with your doctor and then make a list of what your life will be like with surgery and with out. See how you feel about it then. I just had surgery on my foot. If I had had the 70 pounds on that I did three months ago I would be out of my mind. Add to that all the meds I am off and the more able I am to do every day things. I would do it again and again. It is getting over that initial hurtle. Only you and your Drs can decide if it is safe and then right for you.  Keep in mind that it is normal to get scared the closer you get to a surgery date.
