Anyone broken a chair...

Don talked about seatbelt extenders today.  I have never had to deal with one...came close, but was always able to fit in.  My biggest embarrasment through the years was breaking a couple of very nice chairs.  When your in a crouded room (and being very large) and the chair under you breaks...One of the most mortifying moments in my life...
So has anyone broken a chair or two??  Brian

Oh yes... In fact it got to the point that I would go over to peoples houses with such a strong reputation for breaking furniture that many of my friends and family always had a designated seat for me to sit in when I went to visit. They tried as tactfully as they could to communicate this to me and were as nice as could be about it. But, it was rather embarrassing still. I have had to purchase 2 seat on an airplane and was shamed as HELL when I had to go to court and explain to the judge that my seat belt didn't fit. I do know what you're saying.

Wow Yanker ..  several flashbacks for me there ..

Whenever I had a mediation or deposition to attend in my pre-op days, I had to request in advance that they be sure the conference room contained an oversized, armless chair for me to sit in ..   I remember too whenever I would visit Olive Garden I would have to have them look around the drining room for one of their armless chairs that was empty  for me to sit in, as the armed ones were just too narrow for me to fit in  ..  (I can sit in their "regular" ones now w/o problem) ..   I once was pulled over for "no seatbelt" by a lady cop in our town ..  (she was 300+ lbs. herself, I'd bet, btw)  .. When she got to my door and saw how big I was and I explained to her how the seatbelt wouldn't fit, she mumbled something about extenders and quickly left ..  didn't even write me a ctiation ..

The two most embarassing chair moments for me were: 1) breaking my father's leather reclining chair.  That thing was about 1500 dollars worth.  My mom tried to be nice about it, but.....  2) I ventured out to the neighborhood swimming pool here in Holmen Wi where I live and was sitting on one of those white plastic pool chairs when, bam,  one of the legs busted and I fell on my butt in front of everyone.  Boy they sure don't make chairs like they used to.

Even more embarassing was when I got into my wife's grandpa's row boat in Ohio at Nettle's Lake and I tipped it over.

I've broken afew myself, once at my inlaws house at the kitchen table, I now have my very own share there, wont be needing it much longer but I kind of like it so will probably keep it for myself. The other time was when I took my daughter to see Harry Potter and the theater share went right to the ground and the place was mobbed, so I just sat there and shoved two tubs of popcorn down my throat. I wasnt ready to change yet!!

I remember breaking 2 or 3 of those white outdoor chairs when the leg broke off and I fell on my fat butt. At least I was in my own backyard with only family around...but I was really embarassed when everyone kept asking if I was alright. Luckily, I didn't get hurt.  I also broke the arms on a dining room chair at my in-laws! And I did have to ask attendant for extenders on flights (embarassing), so I can't wait to fly again so I can hopefully fart over no extender!!

Yep, several. Very embarrassing.....I broke one of those white stackable out door chairs at my sisters house when she was having a BBQ for the whole family. I sat in it fine, i was in it for a while (being extra careful not to move around a lot because I know they aren't extremely steady) but the thing gave out under me. UGH!!!!

I broke several of those metal folding chairs, a few nicer wood chairs, fortunately no antiques .....OH and while not mentioned, I did wear out a mattress a year. While I couldn't afford to replace my mattress every year, by the end of one year, my mattress would have such a big grove in it where I slept that the bed was very difficult to sleep in.

Dang . same mattress tale here, Cookieman ..   I have slept on the same one for over 14 years ..   It's actually curved inward from my heavy weight on it over the first 12 years, like a "u" shape ..   I remember staying at a hotel and sleeping on a "new" bed for the first time since a few months out and how strange it seemed to sleep on a "flat" mattress ..  The first night on it I actually had excruciating pain in my back even when I slept on my stomach or sides, I guess b/c nerves were being pressed in my spine that weren't on my old mattress b/c of the "conforming" shape ..  For that reason I'm almost afraid to buy a new mattress now .

I've broken a few in high school and some restaraunts or friends houses over the years. It's embarrasing, but i laugh it off right away and it kinda makes it a little better cause they laugh with you instead of at you (at least one hopes! LOL)

Except for my car, I don't remember breaking a chair, but splitting some pants in the thighs or seat (beware of those Harbor Bay pants at Casual Male - ugh!) ..  and breaking other items b/c of my weight, including pieces of exercise equipment ..

My final straw though was when I broke the eeat back in my Jag (which is held in place by a pair of heavy-duty, welded hinges, btw)..  I had just left my doctor's in tears after finding out my weight had peaked @ 461 lbs. , sat in the car and < SNAP >  the seat back fell backwards ..  I had to drive home with my arm out the window grabbing onto the door to hold my back up during the drive ..  By the time I got home I had become bound and determined I would have WLS! ..
